Taking A Second Look

Guthrie Dean — 1900 Jenny Lind Ft. Smith, Ark.

The Daily Times Leader, West Point, Mississippi, 5/19/67, carries the following headlines and news story on its front page: "MSU ATHLETES TO SPEAK AT CHRIST CHURCH. Representatives of the Mississippi State University chapter of the Federation of Christian Athletes, with a student pastor from State, will hold services at the Church of Christ on Broad Street in West Point Sunday, May 21. Allen Dennis interim pastor who is a student at MSU, will bring the message to the 10:45 services Sunday morning. At the 7 p.m. evening worship service, Dennis will be joined by Gary Washington and brother Manuel, with Danny Martin and Hugh Adams. Gary and Manuel are varsity baseball and basketball players, Danny is a cage star, and Hugh is a member of the Bulldog grid squad. Skeeter Londen, member of the preacher's committee, is in charge of the Sunday services. The area public is invited to attend either or both services, and young people are especially encouraged to meet these fine Christian athletes, Londen said." But the Bible says: "If ye have respect of persons, ye commit sin, and are convinced of the law as transgressors." James 2:9. Jude 16 tells of those who have "men's persons in admiration because of advantage."
