A Letter From Charles House
Dear Brother Tant:
Greetings to you in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. I am writing to advise you that on November 10th at the close of my sermon in San Luis, Mexico, on that night, we had three restorations. One of these was a "liberal preacher" named Gregorio Sierra Oliva (formerly of the Tijuana camp), who made a special trip from Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico, to talk to me about these things that had been troubling him. At different times this year on other occasions I had studied with him as regards the difference between churches acting with the authority of the New Testament Scriptures and ones that did not have authority for the work they were doing. All of us here along the far western U.S.-Mexico border are very happy to know that Mexicali, Baja California, will now be under conservative rather than liberal influence. We are watching this man and helping him every way we can to become more firmly indoctrinated in what the New Testament teaches on this subject of authority. We are thankful to our Father and our God that since 1958 in August of that year, when we first began the Tecate, Mexico, work, the following churches and/or gospel preachers are standing for the truth of God's Word: Tecate, Valle de Las Palmas, Fallbrook, Mexicali, San Luis, Mexico, San Luis, Arizona, Sonoyta and Caborca, here along the U.S.-Mexico border. Of the total of 9 places along this border that have been evangelized in five years, only Tijuana, Mexico, out on the Pacific Ocean belongs to the liberals. Lord willing, within the future, we have plans for trying to change this also.
I have begun new Bible classes in a private home with a total of five members of the church. Three of these are the mother and two-teen-age daughters, who had been members of a Mexican church in Texas. We meet in their home in the Mexican labor camp, north of San Luis between Gadsden and Somerton. My wife and I are teaching classes here in addition to our work in Mexico. This may eventually develop into the establishing of another small but strong congregation of the Lord's people here along the U.S.-Mexico border among the Mexican people.
Temporarily at least, I have discontinued sending out mimeographed reports. I have also cut my evangelistic trips to other towns to an absolute minimum in as much as I must economize at this time. I am around $400 short on my budget for the year to date. This amount must he made up; thus on November 29 I began part time work of 12 hours per week at the U. S. Post Office here in San Luis, Arizona. To date one church in California has definitely committed themselves to $25 per week and another church in Kentucky for $25 per month toward my work for 1964. We are thankful to God and to our brethren for this. In loving faith we anxiously await commitments from other churches and individuals, in order that we will know how to definitely make our plans for 1964. God bless all the faithful brethren everywhere. Pray for us here along the U.S.-Mexico border.
Sincerely in Christ, P.O. Box 641
