A Scholarly Parody

Wm. E. Wallace, Akron, Ohio

I know I am no poet: you read this and you too will know it. But if at the end you fail the point to see, just take the time to write to me.

Ephesians 5:19 - Colossians 3:16 - James 5:13

Alas my brother, you should seek The meaning in the Greek.

Psallo you of course should know Means to play sweet and low.

Psalmos is Greek for accompanying the psalms, That should put to nought your qualms.

II. Corinthians 8:19

And now my brother take another peek At the meaning in the Greek. Kirotoneo means to extend the hand to vote, In choosing the one who shall tote.

So we must have majority rule, Now, let us challenge the elders to a duel.

Galatians 1:22 - Galatians 2

Now look again at the Greek, in Galatians 1 and 2, It is said that Paul to the churches few

In the land of Judea, was unknown.

But alas, the translators were not fullgrown.

"I was unknown" is "imperfect periphrastic,"

Thus "I remained unknown" is the orthodox ticket.

Philippians 4:14-16

See dosis and lepsis and koineo, For these words tell us of Paul's portfolio,

And of his great expense account Of which the churches of Macedonia were the fount.

And Philippi you see, was the church in command

To Make Sure No One Sent Directly To Paul's Hand. Hell

Hell, say the "Jehovah Witnesses" ain't at all, If you preach it you have a lot of gall.

For Sheol, don't you know, Just means grave, so there you go.

"Jehovah Witnesses" know that, as scholars of Hebrew, To raise their indignation, just give a review.

King James - American Standard

Oh me, oh my. and what shall we do, About the scholars who but little Greek knew.

They erred, and slipped us corrupted goods, So now we must turn to Roberts and Woods.

One is a scholar of formal means, The other advanced from the sand-lot teams.

The New-Age

A new era yet to arrive, May see us to private translations jibe.

And where is the scholar who cannot see That Koine and Classical are not to be

Considered the same in cultured interpretation, Much less in bold interpolation.

A Changing Language And Be It Known, Oh Yes Its True,

Greek words had a changing value.

From time to time through out the ages Through customs and usage and various phases, They changed and travelled to and fro,

And this my friend you should know.

The English Bible

O trust in our versions, they are not dead.

It was H. Leo Boles who effectively said, What cannot be proven by our English Bible,

Cannot be proven — it's only a quibble.

We have what we have by the Providence of God, Trust in it, it will lead you beyond the sod.
