News

L. Arnold Watson, 73150 Chase Rd., Dearborn, Michigan, April 4: "Earl West closed a fine meeting with us last night. Three were baptized and three placed membership. Attendance ran well above any previous meeting. (This was my 11th as local preacher.) For three consecutive Sundays we have set new Bible School attendance records. All other services are increasing accordingly. We are facing an acute problem of overflow which may necessitate dual services on Sunday morning or TV closed circuit to basement auditorium. Evening services almost fill our auditorium too. When in the Detroit area visit and worship with us."

W. E. Fortney, 162 Harrison Street, Clarksburg, West Virginia, April 12: "The meeting at Cambridge, Ohio was well attended and one precious soul was baptized into Christ. Brother Charles Hendershot labors with this congregation. I closed a meeting at Fairview, West Virginia on April 10. The interest was good and three responded to the invitation — two (a father and mother) were baptized and one brother returned to the fold. Brother Kelly Wilson led the singing and did his work well."

Olen Holderby, Coalinga, California, April 11: "Yesterday we completed our second year with the brethren here, in many respects a very good year. We had some 48 additions for the year; interest very good as indicated by both attendance and contribution. We have made plans during this second year for larger and better facilities. Lots have been purchased in one of the very best locations in town and just this past week saw the beginning of our new building. The congregation is unified and the people have a mind to work. We are having wonderful results with our personal work program. We realize that much remains to be done and with God's help we look ahead to an even more successful year in His cause."

Orman Henderson, 204 Davis Court, Clarksville, Arkansas, April 12: "Last Wednesday evening we closed a good meeting with Brother Ward Hogland doing the preaching. Six were baptized into Christ, of this number only one was less than 25 years of age, and two were restored to their first love. Brother Hogland will be with us again in September, 1956."

Wally Burt, Box 85, Fouke, Arkansas, April 13: "We are proud to say that last Lord's day we had four baptisms, all of which were teenage girls. The church at Fouke is destined to grow with its fine leaders and a group of cooperating Christians. The Christians here are very zealous in their work for the Lord and take much pride in their building. We have ample class rooms and have air conditioning. The Christians here are also sponsoring a TV program once a month over KCMC-TV. If you are traveling down Route 71 just 15 miles south of Texarkana stop and worship with us."

Mack Kercheville, Box 3487, El Paso, Texas, April 18: "We are happy to report 10 baptisms at the Mexican church in El Paso, Texas since the first of the year. Also there have been two baptisms in Juarez, Mexico, and two in Lordsburg, New Mexico, as a result of our cooperation with the brethren at these places this year. During the month of May my family and I will be in New York City working with Brother Antonio Ochoa and the Spanish speaking congregation there. This trip has been made possible by a special contribution of Brother and Sister Dennis Kellogg, of Seagoville, Texas. We ask your prayers in this work."

Jasper Hilliard, 211 Williams St., East Prairie, Missouri, April 11: "I have resigned the work at East Prairie to become effective September 1st. I have labored with the good church here over four years. Contribution and attendance have tripled in that time and we have a new building which has been bought in the last two years. The work has progressed in every way. Anyone desiring my services may contact me. I shall be happy to furnish references and other information upon request. Any preacher interested in moving here may contact the church for information. I completed a meeting at Jenkinsville, Tennessee April 11th with three baptisms and one restoration. I had the privilege of baptizing my dad in that meeting."

Doyle Cannon, Sunset Church of Christ, Dallas, Texas: "G. C. Brewer will be with us in a meeting from April 24 to May 1."

Radio Program Name Challenged

Jack L. Mackey, Amarillo, Texas Congregations of the church in Amarillo are interested in obtaining information that will help them learn the validity of a challenge made against their use of the title, "Back To the Bible" for a daily radio program begun earlier this year.

Jack L. Mackey, preacher for the Southside congregation in Amarillo, writes that the Good News Broadcasting Assoc., Inc., of Lincoln, Nebraska, has requested that such title for radio broadcast be forsaken in view of their registration of that name under U. S. Registration No. 576,133.

The Amarillo congregations have been advised that it is important to know the truth of two claims made by this organization. First, that their use of this title began considerably prior to any use thereof by churches of Christ. Secondly, that in a number of cases congregations of the Lord's church have been restrained from the use of such title for radio broadcasts.

Information at hand would indicate that churches of Christ have been carrying on radio broadcasts at various times and places, using this exact title, for many years. We cannot learn of anyone restrained from its use by this organization.

The help of the brotherhood is requested in learning facts that will help resolve this matter. It is important that we ascertain the facts about any radio work done under such name — the station or stations, dates and broadcaster. It is also important that it be determined if there have been occasions when the use of such name was discontinued upon complaints of this broadcasting concern.

It is felt that the rights of such concern should be established since the matter affects other programs of the Lord's people now being conducted. Also, because a decision in the matter could affect many future undertakings. If such infringes upon their rights a discontinuance would be honorable. If it is not, then the good work need not be sacrificed.

Your response will have a great bearing in this matter. If you have information of value please advise some of the Amarillo congregations involved. If you wish, you may send your letters to the Southside Church of Christ, 3815 Lipscomb Street.

M. Roy Stevens, 1208 Ninth St., Orange, Texas, April 7: "June 1, 1955 will bring to a close our work with the church of the Lord at Ninth and Elm in Orange, Texas. This has been almost five of the most profitable and indeed happy years of our life. We have been invited to begin work with the Riglea West congregation of Fort Worth, Texas. This explains our leaving the work here in Orange. Some of the very salt of the earth make up the Lord's church here and anyone choosing to succeed me in this work would certainly have no mounting difficulties. Much has been accomplished in the past. The task of erecting a very commodious building was accomplished under the ministry of Brother J. C. Murphy, and since our coming here in 1950 almost every phase of the work has doubled. However, there is yet much to be done. The elders would like to select my successor before June 1st. Anyone interested in this work please address: Elders, Church of Christ, Ninth and Elm, Orange, Texas."
