T. D. Boston, Sr., 806 E. Pecan, Victoria, Texas, Jan. 24: "We have much to rejoice in at North and DeLeon. A man and his wife, parents of adult children, were baptized into Christ Sunday, January 16. We praise God, and pray for further increase."
John Bullock, Box 96, Springtown, Texas, Jan. 20: "During the last two weeks we have enjoyed seeing an increase in the disciples at this place. Last Lord's day three were restored and placed membership. The previous Lord's day one was baptized, one restored and one placed membership. Brother Fred McClung is to show his Palestine pictures here February 20. A plan of work has been formulated for this congregation and is being put into effect. The Lord's work is suffering in many places today because of a slothful leadership which will not support and help preachers do the thing that will cause the church to grow and save souls, and we refer to a well-planned program of work. Too many people are in the leadership who have aspired to be leaders in name only. If they do not know it, they are lost, regardless of the position they try to occupy in the church that cost Christ his blood. When passing through, worship with us."
I Don't Know All The Mexican Preachers And I'm Glad Of It!
Mack Kercheville, El Paso, Texas This may sound like I have no desire to meet some of my Spanish speaking brethren, but that is not the case. What I mean is that the work among these people both here in the U. S. and in Mexico is growing so rapidly that no one can keep up with all the new work and workers. It hasn't been long since I thought I knew either personally or by correspondence every man in the field. It is a real thrill to report that in just the last four or five years the situation has gotten beyond me. Now, I can only guess that I know maybe half of them. Rejoice with me over the growth of the Lord's work.
Among the men I do know there are some very fine preachers in Mexico who need support in the amounts of $25 to $75 per month. Could the church where you worship help on this? Write for more information.
W. Curtis Porter, P. O. Box 195, Monette, Arkansas, Jan. 19: "My loving companion passed away Sunday morning, January 9, and I am so overwhelmed with grief that it is almost unbearable. No one who has never lost a close companion can have any conception of the sorrow that overwhelms me. For nearly a year I had bitterly expected it, but I had not the slightest idea of what the reality of it would be when it came. I could not much longer have endured seeing her suffer as she did for so many months, and I am confident that she is among the blessed dead, but life seems so empty and void and meaningless to me now. I know that the passing of time, coupled with faith in God and a radiant hope of seeing her again in the land of endless day, will help to sustain me, but now I am so burdened with grief that it seems almost impossible to go on. The hundreds of cards and letters received during her fatal illness and upon her passing have been greatly appreciated, and, of course, I may never be able to answer them all. But all who sent contributions have been written. If you sent a contribution and did not get an acknowledgement, either it failed to reach me or my letter of thanks was lost on its way to you. In such an event I shall be glad to hear from you about it. A more detailed account of her passing and of the service will be sent a little later. And while I grope my way through this period of sorrow I ask the prayers of the brotherhood to be continued for me."
Carl Vernon, P. O. Box 512, Burnet, Texas, Jan. 21: "We moved to work with the congregation in Burnet, Texas, the middle of November. The work is in good shape and the prospects for the future look good. There have been six responses since we came. Brother Ed Brown, of Abilene, preached in a good meeting for us December 27 through January 2. Brother J. B. Hudson, of Taft, Texas, will be with us March 28 through April 3 and Brother Harry Payne comes in August. Brother Ira Williams, who preached for the Bertram congregation, passed away last Sunday afternoon with a heart attack. It has been a saddening experience. Brother Williams had been in this part of the state only ten months. He will be greatly missed."
