Robert P. Cooper, 605 Marrtown Road, Parkersburg, West Virginia, Sept. 1: "I have just concluded my first month's work with the Marrtown Road congregation here in Parkersburg. Interest and attendance have been very good. We are anticipating a very pleasant and profitable work. Brother Lawrence Gardner, who preceded me in the work, is loved and respected by the whole church for the fine work he did while here. This congregation is about five years old, with around 75 members. All are working in harmony under the oversight of the elders. There are nine loyal congregations in Parkersburg and immediate vicinity. It is a pleasure to be associated with them in the Lord's work. I had the pleasure of speaking on the daily radio program each morning last week. When in this vicinity worship with us."
W. E. (Bud) Irvine, 5th and. Atlantic, Long Beach, California, Sept. 1: "The gospel meetings in which I assisted in Shafter and Wasco, California, resulted in 24 responses to the invitation. There were five baptisms and 19 restorations. My next meeting is in Delano, California, and begins in October. The work here at 5th and Atlantic in Long Beach appears to be improving. Since beginning the work here on the first of June there have been about 20 restorations and transfers of membership. We are centrally located about five blocks north of the ocean and five blocks east of the main street of town. Come worship with us when visiting in our area."
Rufus R. Clifford, Lawrenceburg, Tennessee, Sept. 1: "From August 16-26 I worked with Joseph H. Cox and the Preston Hwy. church of Louisville, Kentucky in a meeting. Crowds were the best to date for a meeting for this growing church. Leland Jarrett directed the singing. One was immersed and two placed membership. Brother Cox is doing a wonderful work not only with the Preston church but in that whole area. I am in a meeting this week at West Point, Tennessee."
W. Herman Neill, P. O.Box 905, Seminole, Texas, Sept. 1: "Paul L. Wallace of Gladewater, Texas, recently closed a seven days meeting with the church here. He did his work well. Six were baptized and two were reclaimed. The Lord's work here moves along very well. Recently elders and deacons were appointed to serve the church here. The elders are W. A. Wauson, W. M. Crismon, and L. G. Daugherty. The deacons are Arch A. Howell, Allison Gainey, Walter Woods, and Horace I. Jones. Three have placed membership here and one has been restored since our meeting closed."
Dale Sexson, Box 474, Andrews, Texas: I just recently returned home from a meeting with the Northside church in Colorado City, Texas. Fourteen were baptized, two were restored and much interest was created. Since Jan. 1 of this year one hundred and one have responded to the invitation. We have been having two services each Sunday morning to accommodate the crowds. The crowds have increased all summer. Construction on a new auditorium will begin soon."
DEBATE F. I. Stanley, evangelist, Church of Christ. Midland, Texas, versus. J. Cullis Smith, preacher for Missionary Baptist Church of Ardmore, Oklahoma. Beginning Sept. 22 through 25 — eight o'clock each evening. Place: Southside Church of Christ, 710 S. Baird, Midland. Texas.
Propositions to be discussed are: Baptism and The Church.
Mr. Smith is affirming that the Baptist Church is the scriptural New Testament church of Christ as taught in the Bible. Brother Stanley affirms the same about the church of Christ.
J. David Taylor. Gould, Oklahoma, Aug. 31: "Brother Bill Carmack of Lawton. Oklahoma, closed a wonderful series of meetings here last Sunday night week. Three fine adult people were baptized and one fine man with great influence came back to duty. We have never had so great crowds here, the brethren say, of our own religious neighbors. Bill Carmack has been serving Florida State
University as assistant speech teacher they last two years, I believe, and he has had six years of debating experience in school work. He is truly a wonderful preacher and a tender hearted Christian. We give God the praise and glory for this wonderful meeting."
Texas H. Stevens, 1815 Melbourne, Dallas, Texas, Sept. 4: "The Lord has blessed the work here with several additions, some being baptized into Christ, and rapid progress on our new building during July and August. Meetings in Midlothian and Kemp, Texas, in which I was privileged to preach, resulted in nine baptisms. Brother Ira Douthitt is to hold the first meeting in our new building January 10-17, 1954. Be sure to visit with us when you are in Dallas."
J. T. Marlin, Sweetwater, Texas: "Six have responded this week. One was baptized during Malone. Five were baptized in our meeting with Joe Malone preaching. I recently preached in a- meeting at Mead's Chapel in Nashville, Tennessee."
Notice
This will advise the brotherhood that the "Way of Truth" program that came over KWBU, the 50,000 watt station in Corpus Christi, for thirteen months was discontinued July 1st of this year. Due to our own heavy commitments in this area we will be unable to renew this program in the near future. However, the radio station management has the time available at 6:30 a.m. (the same time we used before) and can be taken up before October 1st. We have received commitments from other congregations in the amount of $402.00 per month on this broadcast. It will actually take $618.00 per month to pay for the radio time alone. If there is any congregation who is interested in having and maintaining this sort of program we will be glad to make arrangements for them to use the program and receive from us booklets, stationery, and advertising matter that we have on hand. The present plans we have for our preacher would limit his appearance on the program and his management of it. We would also like to hear from individuals or congregations who would be willing to contribute a certain amount per month toward the maintenance of this good program. We have in our possession many letters and cards showing that this program was of great value to the church as a whole. It was heard regularly in an average of-twenty-four states per month, thirty-one states altogether. Our mail numbered five hundred pieces per month, about forty percent of which was from those who were not members of the church.
Those who are interested in this program should write P. O.Box 3531, Corpus Christi, Texas.
