A Parallel Argument
Following is a quote from a Baptist publication called the ADVANCER. It contains the same type of response to opposition to their promotion as has been so characteristic of those dedicated to the defense of the Herald of Truth promotion and others of like character.
"Cooperation"
"This we feel, is the keynote to our success as a National Association. Without the cooperation of everyone, our common cause will be frustrated. But, with the more than 1600 churches of the N. A. B. A. (their National Association, DRS) working together in all phases of our work, we can achieve great things for Him who hath called us into His marvelous light."
"Some churches and pastors boast of their independence; but what they truly mean by 'independence' is nothing more than 'isolationism' and reluctance to assume any responsibility for executing the Great Commission of our Lord to a lost world. All Baptist Churches are independent of outside interference in her affairs as an autonomous body, but the New Testament plainly teaches the independence of churches in the common cause of the Great Commission. If this is not true, why do we have associations? What one church cannot accomplish alone, many working together as equals can. That is one of the distinguishing features of the N. A. B. A. — equality among churches and preachers. It is an equality of positive service, and not equality of negative do nothingism."
J. W. Pope, Central, Bulletin Changing the names and substituting the Herald of Truth will show that the type of argument and mud-slinging tactics are identical.
"Cooperation"
"This we feel, is the keynote to our success as a National Radio Program. Without the cooperation of everyone, our common cause will be frustrated. But, with the more than 1085 churches of the Herald of Truth (our National Association, DRS) working together in all phases of our (radio) work, we can achieve great things for Him who hath called us into His marvelous light.-

All churches of Christ are independent of outside interference in her affairs as an autonomous body, but the New Testament plainly teaches the independence of churches in the common cause of the Great Commission. If this is not true, why do we have cooperation? What one church cannot accomplish alone, many working together as equals can.
