Seven Spiritual Wonders

Harold F. Savely

"For the grace...zealous of good works" (Titus 2:11-14).

Seven were the wonders of the ancient wonder world, as listed by one, Antipater of Sidon, around 100 B. C. There were: the Pyramids of Egypt, Hanging Gardens of Babylon, Statue of Zeus at Olympia, Temple of Diana at Ephesus, Mausoleum at Halicarnassus, Colossus of Rhodes and Pharos of Alexandria.

Others have compiled listings some of which are, the Seven Wonders of the Middle Ages, Seven Engineering Marvels of the U. S., Seven Natural Wonders of the World, and Seven Modern Wonders. All these, and more, remain to awe inspire and cause us to wonder.

Yet, seven great spiritual and doctrinal wonders of the age are more vastly marvelous than the afore mentioned. They are written of by Paul in Titus chapter two. We can only drink of their deep beauties here but briefly.

Wonderful Grace "of God" (v. 11) There is none other like Him through the ages to feast the heart upon. He is the living and true God (I Thess. 1:9). He is the Father and the Godhead three (Matt. 28:19). He bath made the world and all things therein (Acts 17:24). He created man in His image (Gen. 1:27). He continues his love to man, even after the fall (I John 4:10). The Almighty is spirit (Jno. 4:24), omniscient (Acts 15:18), omnipresent (Jer. 23:23,24), just (Psa. 89:14), holy (Isa. 6:3), good (Psa. 145:9), eternal (Psa. 90:2), and unchangeable (Jas. 1:17). Fathomless!

Wonderful Salvation. "that bringeth salvation" (v. 11). A great deliverance experienced Noah (Heb. 11:7). Great was Israel's salvation that day (Exo. 14:30). Far exceeding is our eternal salvation of the soul (Heb. 5:9). It is truly a great salvation (Heb. 2:4). It frees from the agonies of hell (Matt. 10:28). It promises heavenly bliss (Heb. 11:13-16). Spellbinding!

Heavenly Plan. "teaching us" (v. 12). It is a teaching plan (Jno. 6:44,45). The power is within the word (Rom. 1:16). God saves by the foolishness of preaching (I Cor. 1:21). All must know God (Heb. 8:11). No one is ignorantly saved, spirit struck, whispered to from within, pulled through, gets religion, has an experience of grace, or has a purification by unction. No better plan could woo us than by the cross (Jno. 3:16). Marvelous!

Wonderful Life. "we should live" (v. 12). The greatest life is in the Lord (Jno. 1:4). It is an abundant life (Jno. 10:10). It is here a hundred fold and eternal life to come (Mk. 10:30). It is expressed in beatitudes (Matt. 5:1-16). Magnificent!

Wonderful Savior. "our saviour Jesus Christ" (v. 13). His name is Jesus, Saviour (Matt. 1:21). He is the Wonderful, Counselor, mighty God, everlasting Father, Prince of Peace (Isa. 9:6). There is none other name whereby to save us (Acts 4:12). From the past he cleanses (Matt. 26:28). For the present he succors us (Heb. 2:18). In the future he shall receive us (Jno. 14:3). Majestic!

Wonderful People "a peculiar people" (v. 14). We are not peculiarly odd, contrary or eccentric. We are God's peculiar, pecuniary, chattel servants, a people for God's own possession. We are zealous of His good works (ibid). We clothe the naked, visit the prisoner, feed the hungry, minister to the sick (Matt. 25:31-46). We practice pure and undefiled religion (Jas. 1:27). We do good unto all men (Gal. 6:10). Our feet carry the gospel of peace (Rom. 10:15). We limit our zeal to work according to His ordained will (Eph. 2:10). We love one another (I Jno. 4:7). Glorious!
