Fellowshipping False Brethren

H. L. Bruce

There are different kinds of false brethren. Some are given to classical liberalism; others are profane. Some of our brethren make and bind laws with regards to bible classes and women teachers which God did not bind. In so doing they choose a prerogative which belongs only to God. Then there are those who use mechanical instruments of music in their worship to God. Some brethren teach premillennialism. Brethren exist which hold to the views of the Mission Messenger, Restoration Review and Sentinel of Truth. And there are others of different sorts and shades of belief — all of which are brethren.

I am not angry with those who disagree with me, but there are some questions which are not answered. When it comes to fellowshipping some brethren who believe, teach and practice error, I wonder, WHY THE PARTIALITY?

If the classical liberals can't be fellowshipped, can the profane? Is it scriptural and consistent to isolate one group for fellowship while refusing others?

If one could fellowship all the facets of error among brethren, could he not cross a denominational line and fellowship some of them? If some, why not all? When the gate is down, where does one stop?

I speak only for myself, and will gladly submit a correction, if wrong. But; personally, I am regulated by such passages as, "A man that is an heretic after the first and second admonition reject: knowing that he that is such is subverted, and sinneth, being condemned of himself." (Titus 3: 10 — 11) "Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause division and offenses contrary to the doctrine which you have learned? and avoid them." (Romans 16:17)

Is it not true that according to the afore mentioned scriptures that certain ones are to be "marked", "avoided" and "rejected"? Who are they? Let the scriptures answer! When you note the answer in these scriptures (Ro. 16:17; Tit. 3: 10), then you'll know my position.
