Compromise? Never!
Throughout this nation, a plea is being made by the espousers of error for "fellowship." The basis given admits, however, of no fellowship, for there is no fellowship of truth with error, of God with Satan. There is no unity out of God's Word, for where there are differences in authority and doctrine, the which are diversely opposed, there can be no unity of mind and judgment or in speaking the same thing. (I Cor. 1:10) If not in God's Word, in what then and where is "fellowship?"
How repulsive and nauseating is this cry to embrace the whoredom of institutionalism now being emitted from even the midst of our "brethren!"
If the world seeks unity, let it turn to Christ. God forbid that we should compromise his cross!
Of course, scriptural unity is not the goal, for if that be it, then we have it already in His Word, and to bring it about, the sects have only to reject their cherished creeds and embrace His sacred Word. But their hobbies and creeds they love more than all. This they are not willing to do. What then is the purpose of this "compromise?" It is an old desire in new clothing (and not so new at that) to close the objects of their love. The plea is not to those in error to give up error and be united in truth, but it is to those who love the truth to compromise. Brethren, can we not see it?
Regardless of reasons given, however honest the motives of some might be, such fellowship as suggested embracing error is condemned by the Word of God. I cannot hear the pleas of men when the plea is against God.
I Corinthians 10:15-31
Concerning things offered to idols, Paul says that they are sacrificed to devils and not to God: "and I would not that ye should have fellowship with devils."
Any worship or doctrine that is not of God is of the devil. (I Timothy 4:1) To be "sociable," or "ready and apt to form and maintain communion" with error is to have "fellowship with devils." Are your ears open to such a cry?
II. Corinthians 6:14, 17
"Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? . Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you."
II. John 9-11
"Whosoever transgresseth and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son. If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed: for he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds."
I Timothy 5:22
"Neither be partakers of other men's sins: keep thyself pure."
Ephesians 5:11
"And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness but rather reprove them."
Fellowship Sin?
Fellowship sin, for what purpose? "For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? For if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ." (Gal. 1:10)
It is a serious matter to have fellowship with sin regardless in what form it rears itself, for to thus do is to thus be guilty of the sins allowed and fellowshipped. (Romans 1:28-32, II John 9-11)
This is not the time (the time never comes) to be passive in these matters. To the ministers of the Gospel, "Come out from among them (even the ministerial alliances). Stand fast in one faith." Brethren, hold high the hands of all who contend against error. Compromise never! "We shall not be moved."
