Just Squibbing

A. H. Porterfield, Poplar Bluff, Mo.

"The meek . . . shall inherit the earth." True—but the other fellow seems to be trying harder to take possession of it right now.

—O—

Our modern preachers are still far behind the times. You see, the divorce question is a very unpopular subject with preachers. But with the nation as a whole, it is one of the leading topics. The preachers are embarrassed and the lawyers are happy. They are getting rich on the preacher's silence.

—O—

Some people say they do not intend to make monkeys out of themselves, yet they are always carrying tales around—on the other fellow, that is.

—O—

One of the most stubborn things in this world to deal with is ignorance mixed with downright "cussedness," whatever that is.

—O—

Why is it that those who meddle in other people's business never realize that they are making a "mess" of their own?

—O—

How grave and how treacherous are the conflicting problems confronting us! Yet, how care-free are we! How few people realize the gravity of these problems and strive to find the solution and work them! How many more people see and understand the problems, but make no attempt to do anything about them! While the masses seem to have no idea of what goes on!

—O—

Those who are spreading this "softening-up" propaganda should realize that they may be underestimating the faith and intelligence of some people who don't talk out loud.

It is downright foolish to try to scare the devil, or any of his force, with your own words—they know you and your words too well! But try using the word our Savior used—"the Sword of the Spirit"—then watch 'em go!

—O—

What a beautiful and perfect cosmic system Jehovah has set up for man's sake! The sun to give light by day; the moon and the stars to give light by night; the seasons to give variety; the fertile bosom of Mother Earth to give productivity; the rippling, sparkling streams to slake the thirst—all! All for the happiness and satisfaction of those He loves! Yet, how little we appreciate it all! But, how much less do we appreciate what He has done for our eternal welfare!

—O—

What goes on here? When did elders and teachers of Bible classes start teaching moderate drinking? Me thought God's people were opposed to drinking—period. How come I'm so far behind? Have the modern teachers overlooked me? How long has this been going on? "Information, please!"

—O—

Undesirable weeds and grass are abundant—nothing wants them, including the insects. Desirable plants are few and hard to raise—everything wants them, including the undesirable weeds, grass and insects. Undesirable people are few and hard to raise—everybody wants them, including the undesirable people. What a funny world!

—O—

Some one has said; "one of this country's best alarm clocks is bacon and eggs cooking on the kitchen stove." Yeah, but who can afford such expensive alarm clocks?
