The Church In Waco

The Merriwood church of Christ, Waco, Texas, is a conservative congregation where the authority of God is respected and the truth is taught in its purity and its fullness. In the face of great difficulties, from without and within, a small group of Christians have struggled for almost two years to establish, on a permanent basis, a church which stands foursquare on the "Apostles' doctrine." We have had many brushes with Satanic forces and many "perverse tongues" have spoken, and are speaking, against us and the truth for which we stand. In the face of it all we are determined to press on and continue to do those things which we believe are "pleasing in the sight of the Lord." Pray for us that we may be "strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might." And that we may "put on the whole armor of God, that we may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil."

For several weeks now we have been forced to assemble out on a ranch, ten miles from the city, in the home of one of our members. This will no longer be necessary as the Merriwood church has purchased, by faith, two lots with a dwelling house in the the city of Waco.

This property is zoned for a church building. The house situated on these two lots is an older type house with seven large rooms and two bath rooms. It is substantially built and is in fairly good repair, except it needs new paper, but we can wait for that. Our payments will be no more than we would have to pay for rent for a place not as desirable.

We especially make this announcement for the sake of those who may, in the future, be moving to Waco and who desire to worship with a conservative congregation of the Lord's church. Also we invite those of you who visit, from time to time, to worship with us. The place of assembly is conveniently located and easy to find.

Our need for a "sound preacher" is urgent. In this city of over a hundred thousand people we desperately need help in the establishing of a sound church where the truth will be taught in its entirety and where error and unrighteousness, in their various forms, will be exposed.
