J. D. Tant -- Texas Preacher"

C. D. Plum

This book was worth buying, worth waiting for, and worth reading. I could hardly lay it down long enough to eat, until I finished it. Part of the time I was laughing, and a part of the time I was crying. Since my wife and Russell are now reading it, it is having the same effect upon them.

Surely, Brother Tant's labors excel any preacher I know of as young as I. And surely, too, his labors will be rewarded. But while I cannot praise his work too highly, believe me, no preacher can labor as Brother Tant did if there wasn't a good wife and mother around. And I would just like to meet and shake hands with sister J. D. Tant, for I am convinced that this Christian wife and mother had a good part under God in bringing out the best in J. D. Tant. God bless you sister Tant.

Brother Tant's oft repeated warnings: "Brethren, we are drifting," were read by me when I was a younger preacher than I am now. I didn't know then, as I know now, how sadly true those warnings were. These words seem more appropriate now: "Brethren, we HAVE drifted."

It is later than we think when brethren encourage social drinking, and school, and home dancing. Oft I cry myself to restless slumber over these and other departures. It is my candid judgment, we need more J. D. Tant's.
