Pray Every Day

Shelby C. Smith

A Christian cannot live and grow spiritually without daily prayer, any more than we can develop without daily food. "0 Thou that hearest prayer, unto thee shall all flesh come." Psa. 65:2. Not every one that prays will receive an answer, but only those who do God's will, Jno. 9:31.

Children of God are always rewarded, if they pray in faith, and according to his will. "Ask and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: for everyone that seekth rceiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opend. "Matt. 7:7,8. Many times we fail to pray as often as we should, and too many times, we ask for something that the Lord knows we don't need.

No man need go to God in prayer, having any ill will against his fellowman. If we have any ill will against a brother, we are to make it right with him, between he and thee, Matt. 18:15. We are to "Love our enemies, bless them that curse you, and pray for them that despitefully use you, and persecute you." Matt. 5:44. "Therefore, let us live as the Lord directs, pray secretly and be rewarded openly. Matt. 6:6.

How ashamed fathers and mothers should be who refuse to speak to their children. God speaks to us through the Bible. We speak to him through the medium of prayer. It is a tragic thing for us to refuse to be on speaking terms with our Creator. Any failures that come into our lives as Christians are due to our shortcomings and not to God's neglect. But prayer is the golden link that puts us in communication with God. While talking to God, we should pray for orphans. Pray for the poor. Pray for the rulers of our country. Pray for our enemies as well as our friends. Pray for all, and above all, be sure to pray. There is power in prayer. "Lord teach us to pray."
