So They Say

So well constructed are his (Evangelist Billy Graham's) sermons, so interwoven is true and false doctrine, so forceful and persuasive is his delivery, that even a fairly well instructed Catholic may be deceived. — Rev. John E. Kelly, director of the Bureau of Information of the National Catholic Welfare Conference. So, of course, the Catholic church forbids her subjects to hear even this preacher. The loyal, blind, devoted subjects will follow this instruction and refuse to hear.

Information Wanted

In the Christian Chronicle, May 21, there appeared an announcement that Ralph A. Casey, of Abilene, would soon begin a new feature in that paper. He is to give a weekly report on "NEW CONGREGATIONS OF THE CHURCH OF CHRIST" Yes, that is the way it read. Again do we see the denominational concept of the church which so many have today. Imagine giving the report of "New churches of the Church of Christ." Can anyone supply these brethren with any information about any new churches started by the Church of Christ denomination?

He Is Off The Fence

"Next Sunday Brother DeHoff will be preaching in a meeting for the North Highland church in Russellville, Alabama.... The North Highlands church in Russellville was established last December. . . . The church is being persecuted some because each month it takes a collection for Childhaven Home in Cullman, Alabama. (The anti-orphan boys have sown their discord in North Alabama.) Pray for Brother DeHoff that he may have a good meeting and that peace may be brought to the churches in that area." — Bulletin, East Main church, Murfreesboro, Tennessee. DeHoff preached for a faction in Russellville which is now known as the North Highlands church. This church is not in fellowship with either of the two faithful churches in town. The leaders in the new church are some former chronic troublers of the Washington Street church. From them this church had withdrawn fellowship. DeHoff told another one of those things which he says that he is good at and in which he says he has had a lot of practice (so it is commonly reported), when he told that this new church is being persecuted because they send a monthly contribution to Childhaven. That is just not true at all. DeHoff made an intemperate speech on the radio in Russellville against all those who oppose such institutions as Childhaven. He has espoused the relatively-new position recently given so much attention by Guy N. Woods. He said that an orphan home under an eldership was both "unscriptural and sinful." DeHoff has long been on the fence on this question. He has argued against institutional orphan homes on various occasions. But now he is all out for them — provided they are not under an eldership, but under a corporate body — owned, directed and controlled by a human institution! While DeHoff lived in Russellville he had trouble with the very leaders of this faction. He thought then that they were modernistic and digressive! But, alas, the enemies have been reconciled! Why and how ?? Well, someone put it this way — "Their bond of union is their communion with a human institution." — (Read the next article.)

How True! How Ture!

In one of the bulletins which I received a few days ago was the statement, "Sometimes friends are just two people mad at the same person." How true! Yes, there are those who are willing to "join hands" in opposition to someone, not because they are friends in the true sense of that term, but because they have a common enemy.

The Pharisees had very little in common with and generally were bitterly opposed to the Sadducees; however, when Christ appeared on the scene there were times when momentarily they would lay aside their differences and together oppose the Son of God. They were "friends" mad at the same person.

Are there evidences of such practices in our days? When you observe some who formerly had very little to do with each other but now appear to be inseparable, it is enough to make one wonder. Are these men affectionately attached to one another, or are they just "mad" at the same persons — those whom they delight to brand (without being justified in doing so) the "anti-cooperation" and the "anti-orphan" brethren? ?

Once when the Pharisees and Sadducees had joined their forces to oppose the great apostle to the Gentiles, by a clever piece of strategy, Paul created a "dissension between the Pharisees and Sadducees, and the multitude was divided." Act 23:7.

Some within the body of Christ today who once presented a united front against those whom they stigmatize the "Guardian boys", now find themselves in the midst of dissension. Frequently one hears the statement, "History repeats itself", which leads us to say, "How true!" — John Iverson, Birmingham, Alabama.

DO YOU KNOW? That Christian colleges are training not only most of the preachers and missionaries for the churches but also the elders, deacons and teachers? — Bulletin, South Park church, Beaumont, Texas.
