Aren't They Wonderful!

Pryde E. Hinton, Dora, Ala.

Rep. Dan Flood, Pa., wanted to know of Floyd Bryant, assistant Secretary of Defense, "if the Armed Services were going in for underground construction. He got this reply:"

"We try to maintain a balance between the hard, as it is called colloquially, which means, in many instances, subterranean construction, and the effectiveness of our deterrent forces on the other hand which apparently, under present concepts, is regarded as the best instrumentality as opposed to a hidden defense posture."

The following was the Congressman's reaction:

"You are wonderful. I haven't the faintest idea what you said. You just spew words. What in the world do you mean?"

Quotations from Washington Pipeline, Birmingham Post-Herald (Alabama).

When I read the circumlocutory writings from the "masterful pen" of some learned brother (so different from Peter and John: Acts 4:13), "that hath a mint of phrases in his brain," ' I find an almost — mind you, I said ALMOST — "deadly parallel" to the aforementioned assistant Secretary. I sometimes get the impression that they don't want us to know exactly what they say. I think they want to befuddle the obtuse minds of such limited mortals as I into thinking that organization and method or means are synonymous terms in all cases. But why don't they tell us if the congregational set-up, as taught in the New Testament, is an organization or a method? Webster gives as one definition: "That which is organized; an organism; any vitally or systematic organic whole; an association of persons, as in a club."

Or, "as the organization of an army or government." That is what the average orphan home is.
