Brother Lemmons Did Not Cooperate -- Not For A Hundred Dollars

Frank Reeder, Abilene, Texas

Following is a letter which was mailed more than two months ago to Brother Lemmons. No reply has been received.

Dear Brother Lemmons:

In the editorial of the Firm Foundation of November 29, 1955 you made the following statement: "None can stand against a preacher with a Bible in his hand and with nothing but what the Bible teaches to defend." And again on the next page: "No one who claims to be a Christian would hesitate for a moment to study his practice in the light of God's word." You also said that brethren should avail themselves of a copy of a good debate with the "Anti brethren." Why did you not suggest that they get a copy of the Totty-Watson-Holt debate? I bought a copy and read it, then bought another copy and gave it to the ACC library. And, another question: Why not show the readers of the Firm Foundation, in a Brotherly discussion, how weak the arguments of the brethren who oppose the current sponsoring church method of doing mission are?

Some years back Brother Showalter published all that Brother N. L. Clark wrote, and offered to publish another article if Brother Clark wanted him to. A few years ago Brother Tant published all that Brother Bales wrote and offered to publish more. Let us look again. Brother Showalter offered the editor of the Apostolic Way one hundred dollars ($100) to publish the discussion. The said editor did not do so. Now I am offering you the same amount to publish a discussion by you (or some other man if you choose to select another man) and Brother Cecil Douthitt on the sponsoring church method of doing mission work. If you will affirm the scripturalness of the said practice in such a discussion (or have someone else to do so) in about four or five articles each, the debaters to agree on the number, I will guarantee you the hundred dollars.

Awaiting your action on the matter I remain a friend and brother in Christ.

Frank Reeder P.S. Brother Foy Wallace, C. R. Nichol, or Roy Cogdill would be accepted if necessary, and on the same terms.
