A Discussion Of Congregational Cooperation

Proposition One:

The scriptures teach that a church may contribute money from its treasury to another church only when the receiving church is unable financially to supply adequately for the physical needs of its own indigent members.

Proposition Two:

The scriptures teach that one church may (has the right to) contribute to (send funds to, render assistance to) another church which has assumed (undertaken) the oversight of a work to which both churches sustained the same relationship before the assumption of the oversight.

Rules to Govern the Discussion:

1. The discussion will be held February 25-28, 1957 (four consecutive nights) beginning each evening at 7:30.

2. The first two nights, discussion of proposition number one, will be conducted in the building of the Midland Boulevard church, 2400 North 28th; and the last two nights, discussion of proposition number two, will be conducted in the building of the Park Hill church, Jenny Lind at South "S" in Fort Smith.

3. The disputants will conduct themselves in harmony with Christian principles and will be governed by Hedge's Rules of Debate.

4. Each disputant will have two 30-minute speeches each night, to be delivered alternately: on each proposition, after the last negative, the affirmative will have a 10-minute rebuttal; no new material will be introduced in the last negative or the rebuttal.

5. Not more than five written questions will be submitted each night by each disputant; to be submitted in writing (in duplicate) when read in the first speech; to be answered in the following speech.

6. No literature will be distributed before, during or after the discussions.

7. Tape recorders will be limited to three: one each for the disputants and one to be available during the day to those who desire to record from it.

8. If he desires, either disputant may print the debate upon the condition that an affidavit be included in the book in which his opponent states he has read and corrected his speeches and the proof copy of the final publication.
