"Birds Of A Feather Flock Together"

Howard Sawyer, Hammond, Indiana

It has been known for quite sometime that the Cornell Avenue Church, of Chicago, has lent her support and influence to preachers and teachers who are unsafe and unsound. She has had, at least, three or four preachers who have propagated some extreme teachings and did not fire any of them for it. So it stands to reason, that she either likes such "stuff" or else does not have the courage and stamina to release them.

The Cornell Avenue Church has tolerated the rankest preachers and teachers in her pulpit. Ralph Wilburn, who is now with a wing of the Christian Church, was once their faithful(?) minister. Robert Box, who has been a great sympathizer with denominationalism, was at one time their beloved preacher. Roy Key, whose writings and teachings have been and are now the subject of much criticism, was at one time their assistant minister. Now, Farrell Walters is their well thought of preacher. Farrell dreads the thought of being called a modernist, yet, this very week he is using every piece of thread on his spool of energy to advocate and advertise a lectureship being sponsored by the Cornell Avenue Church, whereon appears, at least three or four preachers whose teaching is dangerous and their influence is detrimental to the cause of Christ. I am not a "name caller," but Roy Key, Henry Walderon and Don Horne have all made statements that have destroyed people's confidence in them. Now, Farrell has remained with the Cornell Avenue Church for over two years without being fired and is supporting such men as the ones mentioned above. Is not the old adage still true, "birds of a feather flock together?

P.S. I believe the statements in this article are true and they express my convictions exactly. — Jesse Lewis, Hammond, Indiana.
