News

W. E. Fortney, 162 Harrison, Clarksburg, West Virginia, Sept. 28: "I just closed a short meeting at Walnut Fork, near Alvy, W. Va. This-is a small congregation but they are doing good. The meeting resulted in one confession of error."

Ivan R. Stewart, 5101 Indian School Road, N.E., Albuquerque, New Mexico, Sept. 29: "Last Sunday two were baptized and one restored. Two were restored and one placed membership the previous Lord's Day. Bible Study has increased from 154 to 251 for a record and 48 have responded since May 1. The congregations of Albuquerque are engaged in a city-wide training program this week. All phases of the work are going forward. My father passed away from this world last week."

Doyle Cannon, 2442 W. Jefferson, Dallas, Texas, Sept. 30: "There have been 25 responses to the invitation since I have been here which is an average of one a day. We are trying to strengthen our spiritual foundation so that we may grow solidly. Our plans call for our present auditorium, which seats 600, to be converted into classrooms within two years, plus a new auditorium seating 1,500. We reached an all time high in Bible School last Sunday with 428. Our new goal is 470 for Bible study. Our meeting with Edward Craddock is October 24-31. Please plan to be with us."

Floyd Embree, 610 E. LaDeney Dr., Ontario, California, Sept. 27: "Two baptized since last report. I was in a meeting at McFarland, California, September 8-19. Brother O. D. Dial is the preacher. F. L. Stanley begins a meeting here September 29 to run through October 10."

S. Marvin Phillips, 3301 N. Keystone Ave., Indianapolis, 18, Indiana, Sept. 20: "We baptized a lady at N. Indianapolis last night that had been a member of the Reformed Church."

Wayne T. Hall, 1024 Grant Street, Denver, Colorado, Sept. 27: "I am looking for a place to preach. I would prefer preaching where the cause is weak but will go anywhere. I am a young married man and have two children."

F. B. Shepherd, 1732 Keeaumoku, Honolulu, Hawaii, Sept.

"The church in Honolulu will be using a temporary place of worship for the next four months in the Lincoln School Auditorium. We expect to break ground for our permanent place of worship November 1. Lincoln School is on the corner of Beretania and Victoria, across from Thomas Square and the Academy of Arts building. Buses on King Street pass within one block. Those on Beretania pass the door. Regular hours of service similar to those on the mainland. Old friends, who know our situation here are still being solicited to have financial fellowship with us in this greatest undertaking the church has experienced this far. We crave the prayers of all and the assistance of new friends. For information call 67952 or 999099. We had the privilege of baptizing another young man last week. It is slow but we are growing."

T. J. Ruble, 510 W. Thompson, Temple, Texas, Sept. 27: "Two men have been restored since I began working with the Central congregation here in Temple."

M. C. Cuthbertson, Box 1001, Culver City, California, Sept. 28: "Work with Culver Palms continues to be very fine. New Records in Bible classes established last Lord's day. A splendid couple placed membership with us and a fine young lady was baptized into Christ. I begin a meeting with Central, 5th and Atlantic, Long Beach, tomorrow, Wednesday evening."

Olen Holderby, Coalinga, California, Sept. 30: "Since last report there have been seven additions to the congregation here. The summer months, which usually show decreases in both attendance and contribution, proved to be good months for the church here. Peace and interest continue to be our best assets." ,

Preacher Available

Jesse Lewis, 6243 Delaware, Hammond, Indiana: "I have finished 18 months with the Hessville Church. I am now available for located work elsewhere. I am married, have four children, am thirty seven years old and have nine years preaching experience."

Joseph W. Baker, 4147 Loma Alta, San Diego, California September 28: "The brethren at Imperial Beach are rejoicing that we have been able to get a loan and can now go ahead with our plans for additional classrooms as well as a baptistry for our new building. We begin work at once and hope to complete it in the not too distant future. Our attendance is increasing steadily and hope the contemplated improvements will help the church to grow more rapidly. Within the last two weeks we have had four baptisms and several restorations. We are thankful to our Lord for his many blessings and ask for your prayers."

C. A. Cornelius, Box 12, Fort Deposit, Alabama, Oct. 2 "We began work with the congregation here on August 29. Since coming here we have had a marked increase in attendance and contributions, as well as a greater interest in Bible study. This congregation does not have elders believing as they do, that God meant for elders to have ALL the qualifications set out in 1 Timothy 3:1-7, Titus 1:6-9 despite the teaching of some that: 'If you don't have elder timber, use the best stick that you have!' Only the judgment will reveal the harm that such false teaching has done to the cause of our Lord. I commend then brethren for their unswerving stand on this question, and my prayer is that their number may multiply. We closed an eight day meeting September 26, using local forces. Two were baptized, and according to the brethren, attendance records were broken throughout the meeting. It is a pleasure to be a part of this zealous, wide-awake group of God's people. A pleasant work is anticipated in this part of the Lord's kingdom."

To Whom It May Concern:

On December 26, 1949 an announcement was made that six members of the Locust Street congregation of the Church of Christ in Mt. Pleasant, Tennessee, were withdrawn from. As a result of the withdrawal, these six members with a few others, left Locust Street congregation and established a congregation on Main Street in Mt Pleasant, Tennessee.

On September 22, 1954 at a joint meeting of these two congregations, four of those that were withdraw from, and most of the Main Street congregation were restored. Full fellowship was restored between the two congregations. The two congregations will remain, but will work together in preaching and teaching the gospel of Christ.

Martin Lemon Locust Street Church of Christ

M. A. Mansur, 1405 Richardson, Columbia, Missouri, Sept 27: "The interest continues to grow at the Paris Road Church of Christ. Another Young man was baptized into Christ last week, making a total of five baptisms and nine to place membership during the past two months. Brother A. L. Harbin, evangelist from Abilene, Texas, will do the preaching for us during a ten day meeting, beginning October 1. When in this area come worship with us."

Robert C. Copeland, Jr., 410 S. College Ave., Tahlequah Oklahoma, Sept. 27: "Our meeting with Geo. T. Jones of Fort Smith, Arkansas preaching and J. W. Davidson of this congregation directing the singing is scheduled for October 5-13. Our work goes well here. We have advertised this meeting throughout a 100-mile radius. The Baptists are having trouble here. Accounts of their court injunctions against the preacher have appeared in the newspaper. This affords us a greater opportunity to teach those in error the peace, harmony, and brotherly love that truly characterizes the true church of Christ."
