A Little Story About A Lot Of People

Robert F. Turner, Tyler, Texas

Once upon a time there lived a man who took great pride in his ability to "reason things out." He could even make out his own income tax report.

Then one day he became interested in religion. Aunt Susie said, "Faith only." Uncle Jim said, "Faith only." The radio preacher said, "Just kneel down by your radio, and cry, 'Lord, Lord'!"

Our hero wished to make a full investigation however, so he obtained a Bible and read carefully, "Not everyone that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven." (Matt. 7:21) He also read, "Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only ... For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also." (James 2:26-f)

Aunt Susie said, "Faith only." Uncle Jim said, "Faith only." The radio preacher said, "Faith only." And so our very logical hero declared, "It is now very clear to me that faith only is a most wholesome doctrine, and very full of comfort."

Is This The Way You Read Your Bible?
