Thornton Crews, Box 411, Cushing, Oklahoma: "Some ten months ago, I moved to the above place to help the good brethren build up and strengthen the church of the Lord. We have a meeting house that is a credit to any city. It is adequate for two or three years growth. Since coming this way, I have noted improvement in the Bible school and in other phases of the work. Our contributions are going upward. Thirty-four have been added to our membership list from all sources. G. K. Wallace conducted a fine meeting last spring for us and Roy Foutz is to be here for a meeting in October. I was in a good meeting with the Bellview congregation in Pensacola, Florida, in June. I closed an extra good meeting at Texline, Texas, the first of August. Six were baptized in this meeting and one restored from the Christian Church. We had a fine Vacation Bible School in connection with the meeting. Brother Jim Bartee of Victoria, Texas, did a fine job in directing the singing and he and his good wife helped in the school. I assisted the Drumright church in a Vacation Bible School last week. Drumright is ten miles east of Cushing. I plan to hold a lot more meetings in 1953,54,56 than I have for a number of years. I would like to hold meetings for a number of the churches in Tennessee and Alabama for whom I preached a number of years ago. But will go anywhere that I am called."

M. F. Manchester, Box 260, Comanche, Texas, Sept. 5: "Brother Foy E. Wallace, Jr. held our summer meeting in July. We had large crowds at every service. There were two adults baptized. One has been baptized since the meeting. To my way of thinking brother Wallace will in time to come be looked upon as one of the greatest thinkers and preachers of this generation. Brother Damon Smith of Comanche directed the singing for the meeting in a fine way. He is available for meetings, or singing schools. Write him at Comanche if you need him."

Bryan Vinson, 511 Pearl St., Denton, Texas: "From Aug. 3rd through the 13th I was with the Loudon Ave., congregation in Lexington, Kentucky. Against the odds of digression and premillennialism these brethren are striving to more firmly establish the cause of our Lord in this city where once it flourished so greatly. They have purchased and paid for a lot near the university of Kentucky in the hope of soon erecting a suitable building in which to worship. They merit the assistance of brethren elsewhere in bringing to pass this worthy undertaking. Once this is done a more successfully aggressive work can be done there, and, possibly, many members of the conservative element among the digressives may be won back to the truth. Brother Bob Atkinson is the highly regarded evangelist working with this congregation. There were two baptisms during the meeting."

Foy W. Vinson, 511 Pearl, Denton, Texas, Aug. 29: "My brother, Bryan Vinson. Jr., and I conducted a meeting this past week at the Pilot Point Church of Christ. This was our first meeting effort, and we alternated nights in leading the singing and preaching. The interest was high and the results splendid. There were seven baptisms and three placed membership."

John H. Gerrard, Box 735, Aurora, Illinois, Sept. 6: "Chas. M. Campbell of Akron, Ohio, begins a meeting with us Sept. 21. Services will begin each evening at 8 o'clock. The meeting will continue through Sept. 28. Don Moyer will direct the singing. An invitation to attend this meeting is extended to all our friends and brethren in this area. The church building is located at 529 Clark St."

Albert Smith, 643 W. 10th St., McMinnville, Oregon, Sept. 9: "On July 7 my family and I left McMinnville for a visit to New Mexico and Texas. Our first stop was in San Pablo, Calif., where a former schoolmate of mine, Felix Tarbet, preaches. I spoke on Wednesday night to a good audience; three boys were baptized at the close of the sermon. The last two Sundays of July were spent with the Rogers, N. M., church; there were no visible results. The first ten days of August were spent with Southside congregation in Brownfield, Texas. Three were baptized, three restored, and one was identified with the congregation. Ernest West is doing a good work there. The third Sunday of August was spent with the Snyder, Texas, church. Snyder and Spur, Texas, have contributed to our support ever since we came to Oregon in 1943. The fourth Sunday of August was spent with the church at Tinaha, Texas. I spoke at Spur, and Southside in Lubbock on Wednesday evenings. We returned to McMinnville and resumed our work here last Sunday."

Charles E. Crouch, 1051 Upnor Road, Baltimore 12, Maryland, Sept. 9: "A group of Christians are now meeting for worship each Sunday at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland. Aberdeen is near Bainbridge Naval Training Center and also near Edgewood Arsenal. They meet at 10:00 a.m. in Building 3219, to the rear of the main chapel. Twenty-seven were present last Sunday. Lt. Jerry Strader of Fort Worth, Texas, is preaching for this group. Here in Baltimore, three have been restored and some added by membership recently. I begin a ten days meeting Sept. 14 in the Community Service Building, Annapolis, Md. The church meets in that building each Sunday morning at 10:46."

Choice L. Bryant, 165 South 15th St., Salem, Oregon, Sept. 8: "A young man was baptized yesterday at Central in Salem, which makes a total of four baptisms, two restorations, and one transfer of membership of recent weeks. We also baptized two men in the Oregon State Penitentiary here in Salem a few weeks ago. I was also permitted to conduct services out there Aug. 31. One hundred ten men attended, five of whom partook of the Lord's supper."

W. H. Neill, Box 905, Seminole, Texas, Sept. 10: "Five were baptized in our recent series of gospel meetings. Paul McClung, evangelist of Lamesa, Texas, did the preaching and the song service was directed by our own local song leaders. Both preacher and singers did their work well. The church was edified."

—O—

Joe H. Morris, 2707 Ky Ave, Paducah, Kentucky, Sept. 11: "From Aug. 18 to 28 I assisted the church at Kuttawa, Ky., in a pleasant meeting. Brother C. M. Leneave directed the songs. Brother Hughey is doing a fine work there. One was restored. Last night we brought to a close a good meeting with the Center St. church in Owensbury Ky., with eight baptisms and five restorations. Brethren Virgin Joines and Larry Wigginton directed the singing efficiently. Brother Jim Cannon is the local preacher, and besides doing a fine work he is respected by the congregation. I begin a meeting with the N. Maple St. church in Murfreesboro, Tenn., Sept 22. The work here at Clements St. continues to grow steadily."

O.D. Janney, 1201 Homer St., Charleston, West Virginia, Sept. 9: "One was baptized in the meeting at Saltville, Va., and a blind man 74 years old was baptized in a meeting at Unus, W. Va. I will stop in Princeton, W. Va., the 17th for two services on my way to Saltville, Va. Will begin a meeting at Foster, W. Va., the 28th. I have some time not taken for meetings this fall. Please write me at the above address if you desire my services."

Thos. D. Rose, 1106 Pierre Mont Rd, Shreveport, Louisiana, Sept 9: "The growth of the Southern Ave. church is very encouraging. Brother Austin Siburt, Jackson, Miss., is to assist us in a series of meetings, beginning Oct 6. Recently I did the preaching in a meeting with the Rocky Branch church, near Daingerfield, Texas. Brother Horace E. Hampton is doing an excellent work with the church there."

Denver Guess, 601 Delwood St., Westwood, California, Aug. 26: "We wish to report a new work here in Westwood, Calif., Lassen county. We held our first regular Sunday service on July 6, 1952. Previous to this time fifteen members and their families attended services in Susanville 23 miles from Westwood and 86 miles from Chester. Our first service was attended by 42 people-15 members. On July 28 Evangelist Charles Swan of Grass Valley, Calif, started and held an eleven day meeting with brother Doyle Hughes of Delight, Ark, leading the singing. There were four souls restored to Christ and four baptisms. The church here and the one in Susanville are the only ones in a radius of about 100 miles."

A Presbyterian Preacher Baptized

Judson Woodbridge, Mulvane, Kansas, Sept. 12: "Mr. Tom Price had been a Presbyterian preacher for over forty years. He was baptized Thursday evening at our prayer meeting service. This is an example of an honest man striving to do right. Through his study and the efforts of many he came to see the error of his way. In our study with him he said he was baptized when he was nine years old. He was then asked the question if he thought he should obey the Lord? His answer was "Yes." He was then asked, "Could you obey the Lord when you were nine years old?" He dropped his head and thought for a few moments and answered, "No, I could not." He then wanted to obey. Surely, people who baptize infants and who were baptized when they were infants can see that. We hope many will have the courage to arise and do as this honest, sincere man has done. Yes, he also saw that sprinkling was not New Testament baptism. He is now just a Christian, not a Presbyterian Christian; and he is now in the Lord's church, for the Lord did the adding of him to it. How wonderful it is to stand on the Word of God free from the shackles of the laws and doctrines of men! We are happy for brother Price and pray God's blessings upon him. He lives in Wichita and he expresses his desire to be a member of the Cleveland Ave. congregation."

M. A. Mansur, Columbia, Missouri, Sept. 8: "I am now located with the Paris Road Church of Christ here in Columbia, Missouri. I found it quite difficult to leave Lawton and the very fine little Carnegie Church of Christ, where I had worked for a number of years. During the past four years the membership at Carnegie has tripled, and the brethren there are now working on plans to construct a new church building. This is a fine, enthusiastic and working group of Christians at the Paris Road church. Since this is a college town of about 35,000 population, with the University of Missouri located here, and "Stephens College" (a large college for girls), also "Christian College," a junior college for girls, located in Columbia, in all making about 13,000 students here; so it is quite natural that the church membership is largely composed of students and college personnel. All of this goes to make one of the most important and strategic mission fields to be found anywhere. When in or near Columbia, come and worship with us. We earnestly desire the prayers of all the faithful, to the end that we may be able to render acceptable service to our Lord in this important field."

H. F. Sharp, 1422 Mitchell, Conway, Arkansas, Sept. 6: "Just concluded three years and one week with the church in Blytheville. We baptized seven yesterday at the last two services. Six of the seven were men and boys and one young lady. One lady also was restored. It was a great day. In the last three years in Blytheville we have baptized 309 as a result of the radio work and 120 were baptized in the Blytheville church. This does not include those baptized in the meetings of the Blytheville congregation. In addition to this I have not baptized less than 90 per year in my meeting work. I will close a meeting at Burnt Hill near Jonesboro Wednesday and from there go to Conway to work in a new field. I have two debates scheduled with Baptist preachers this fall. One of the debates is in October and the other in November."

R. Jay Taylor, former resident of Houston, Texas, for 28 years, during which time my work consisted of preaching the gospel, teaching vocal music, carrying on a radio program and working with the young people. Forty six years old; married; one son 17 years old. Good personal worker; a preacher of the gospel with power and simplicity. Am now available. Anyone desiring my services may contact me at 210 Vernon St., West Monroe, Louisiana. Telephone 2-3674."

Dennis Kellogg, Holliday, Texas, Sept. 10: "The church at Holliday has recently closed a meeting with Jady Copeland of Beaumont doing the preaching. Three were baptized. We have had several to place membership and some to confess faults since our last report. Brother Dale Brooks will preach in our spring meeting the first of March, and brother Paul Southern will be with us the first part of July. We installed two more elders Sunday night. Worship with us when this way."
