Just Squibbing

A. H. Porterfield, Poplar Bluff, Missouri

The trouble with so many mothers is they are so busy doing the things they tell their children they are not going to do, they don't have time to do the things they say they will do.

—O—

Moral and spiritual ignorance is to the soul what a deadly germ is to the blood stream.

—O—

"Children are not as well trained in the home as they were thirty years ago," says a professor. Right, but thirty years ago they had trainers. Now, if their trainers are not found in the "grog shop," "petting shop" or the devil's "play shop," they may be found most anywhere to get away from their training responsibilities. Say what you please, but the genius has never been born who can equal a God-fearing, home-loving mother who stays and works at her post of duty for which God has so well prepared her.

—O—

Meditation: Mother said I was born into a world of confusion, but that I was too young to know what it was all about. I grew up in a world of confusion and here I am, a man, still in a world of confusion. But to this day I still don't know what it is all about. I can only think of one little word — SIN.

—O—

Teacher: "Billie, can you tell the class what a secret is?"

Billie: "Yeah, a secret is the shortest distance between two women."

—O—

Why complain about not being able to meet expenses these days? They're everywhere.

—O—

If our future-kingdom brethren manage to get to heaven the Lord may have to rivet himself to the throne to keep them from pushing him off — they will be so angry at him for not establishing an earthly kingdom and not letting them rule for a thousand years.

—O—

Those who stay out late at night wouldn't mind the Lord coming about noon if he would be real careful and not disturb their sleep. That's just about how serious some people take the Lord's coming.

—O—

It's hard to tell which of the two is the most nerve wrecking — bad breaks or bad brakes.

—O—

I love peace, and I love freedom, but when I pay for peace and freedom with the blood of my sons I have a right to expect peace and freedom in return.

—O—

"Study to show thyself approved," but let God do the approving.
