Unchanging

Jim Beech

"Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today, and for ever" (Hebrews 13:8).

The words "Jesus Christ" often denote the doctrine of Christ, "they ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ" (Acts 5:42), "but we preach Christ"(1 Corinthians 1:23), "for we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord" (2 Corinthians 4:5).

One of the proofs of the Divinity of the Bible is the unchanging ethics and principles of God in dealing with man (see Hebrews 1:10-12). God has always demanded faith and obedience from man and has always been against evilness and for good. In fact, our definitions of "evilness" and "good" come from what God has expressed himself as being either against or for respectively. Our "strict morality," our principles of law, our ethical standards are all based on Bible principles. "Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today, and forever."

One of the proofs of the divinity of the church of Christ is the unchangeableness of His doctrine. When it ceases not to teach and to preach Jesus Christ it becomes peculiar and distinct in that it is the only church of this day to remain steadfast, true, unchanging! Continually we read of the synod of this church, the conference of that church or some such, deciding to change that church's position or doctrine on this or that. This changing didn't come from God, you can rest assured of that! We read of churches changing their positions in such pressing catagories as: social fields — riches, society's obligations, segregation and integration, or raciasm, etc.; moral fields — divorce (it's causes and reasons), remarriage, free love, love in's, new morality and so much more that has been specifically condemned by God, yet these things are being urged by the churches of today; last, religious fields — new plans of salvation, new church activities and obligations, new manner of worship (if you call some of it worship). "Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today, and forever."

Oh, were it only so among those who claim to be His followers!!!
