ILLINOIS, INDIANA, OHIO, AND KENTUCKY — GEORGE ELDRIDGE, REPORTER — Looking at a specific Church, 3949 Massachusetts Street in Gary, Indiana 46409. Glen L. Shaver started his second year of preaching work with the Massachusetts St. Church on September 1, 1969. Brother Shaver had 'worked there previously for three years, June, 1958 to June, 1961. As of August 29, five people have been baptized since January, 1969. There are 97 members in the congregation.

The Massachusetts St. Church has conducted since the first of this year the following special classes: (1) men's training class for 8 weeks; (2) Women's Bible Class for 8 weeks; (3) Personal Work Class for 6 weeks; (4) Singing School for 5 nights; and (5) Vacation Bible School for 5 nights with different preachers speaking each evening to the adult class. The different preachers were Cecil Belcher, Bob Archer, Ben Puterbaugh, Ray Warren, and Wm. B. Murrell. The VBS was this church first one and had an average nightly attendance of 110. These brethren also have had a monthly singing, which was held the first Sunday in each month from January through May. Brethren from the area attended quite well and some new songs were learned.

The Massachusetts St. Church has averaged for the first five months of 1969, 125 in attendance and $380.00 in contribution. Since vacation time has ended, these brethren have had contributions of $406.00 on August 17 and $490.00 on August 24.

These brethren sent brother Shaver on a week "mission meeting" the later portion of August to Pulaski, Tennessee. A "mission meeting" is scheduled in November in Taylors, S. C. In addition to sending brother Shaver on "mission meetings" and being willing to send him more if churches requested such, the Massachusetts St. Church pays brother Shaver all of his wages plus $50.00 per month to (I) Charles G. Cardwell at Columbus, Georgia, (2) Earl Fly at Jackson, Tennessee, (3) Joe Clements at Taylors, S. G, and (4) Clifford Sheffield at Milwaukee, Wisconsin. These brethren are hoping to send partial wages to more preachers in the near future.

Brother Shaver's meeting schedule for the remainder of the year 1969 is (1) October 612 at Connerville, Indiana, (2) October 20-26 at Ft. Wayne, Indiana, and (3) sometimes in November at Taylors, S. C.

May God bless these brethren. May they grow and grow and grow spiritually in order to be as the church was in I Thess. 1:7-8. Churches that are like I Thess. 1:7-8 are active and busy for the Lord. They don't have time for idleness and becoming digressive and liberal!

EDITOR'S NOTE: The above news report by George Eldridge gives considerable space to the work of Glen Shaver. We want to add a note that brother Shaver has accepted a "dollar-a-year" responsibility with The Gospel Guardian. He will be our representative wherever he goes and will accept subscriptions, book and literature orders. And, he will be glad to pass on to us your criticisms and suggestions. A good man, this Glen Shaver, and we are glad to have him on the team.

$2.1 MILLION SUIT ACCUSES CHURCH: The Saturday Press-Enterprise of Riverside country in California carries front page stories of a suit against the "Church of Christ" and all its related churches, agencies, schools, camps and officers in the nation." The suit claims the Church of Christ "falsely and fraudulently" agreed to lend the Palm Desert Golf Club, Inc. $2 million for purchase of the golf course. The church has failed to carry out this agreement, according to the suit. It seems a preacher or two, and a congregation or two, of the liberal persuasion, did something in the name of "Churches of Christ," and they can't legally, scriptually or rightfully do this. But of course this is what such organizations as Herald of Truth have been doiiig for a long time. The outcome will be more than interesting! P. O. Box 21 Bolivia, North Carolina 28422.

W. C. SANDEFUR, HARRINGTON, MAINE: "The work here in Milbridge is going fine. In the past two weeks we have had three baptisms and four restored. Attendance is increasing and Perlie and Mary Grant are letting us stay in their home while we continue to search for a house. This hampers my planned work here, but we will do the maximum of our ability until we secure a house. We ask the prayers of brethren all around this country and invite them to worship with us if and when they are in this vicinity. The Church building is located on Main Street in Milbridge." Box 33, Harrington, Maine 04643 (Note: Brother Sandefur needs additional support badly. He receives only $200.00 each month).

GEORGE WELSH TYLER REPORTS: "W. L. Wharton, Jr. was with the 50th and University congregation at San Diego, California, September 15-21. Attendance said to have been best in history of the congregation. His sermons were very instructive and convincing. Several sister congregations were well represented every night. They came for instruction in the ways of righteousness and they received it. The entire San Diego area profited much from this meeting." 3811 Pershing Avenue, San Diego, California 92104.
