Our Constant Task

Garreth L. Clair

If we live in a world today that is swiftly becoming more than we can bear. We must look into our very soul to see that we are not becoming a part of that which we abhor. It is as true today as it was during the days of Sodom and Gomorrah, that man and his relation to God has readied a critical state. If we look at the larger cities in the world today and compare the number of God's Children therein with the number saved out of those two Old Testament cities, it is indeed shocking and somewhat sobering to those faithful ones who are diligently seeking to make Heaven their eternal abode.

In view of these sobering facts, we might now ask ourselves, I am but a man a single member of the great body (The Church). What can I possibly do? Can I stem the tide of corruption, departure from the truth, apathy, and human innovations. If you are looking for excuses, then there are countless ones available to you. On the other hand if you wish to honestly pursue a course that will assist in stemming this evil tide. Lay hold of your Bibles and stand as firmly behind those things that tend to promote and exalt God's Son (The TRUTH will make us all free John 8:32, I Chronicles 29:11). Each of us has this responsibility as children of God, to do all that we can to be sure that the Lord's Church is always kept pure, and that all the members walk worthy of their calling. Must we all be constantly reminded of our responsibilities in this respect, read the exhortations of the Apostle Paul, which are found in I Tim. 3:9, II Tim. 1:3. and 5:22.

There have been many assaults upon the truth in our present day, but none have been more evident than those that are prevalent in the area of the work of the Lord's Church. There are those among us who have suffered severely at the hands of the ones promoting such ungodly practices. Some of those who advocate these departures have misrepresented, literally told things which are untrue and have gone as far as to offer subtle threats and serious threats of bodily harm to those who are actively engaged in exposing this error. Must we always endure these abuses? We must, for our souls sake. Never becoming weary in good works II Tim. 4:5.

We that have obeyed that form of doctrine, once delivered are truly God's elect. Then let us so behave ourselves as to be a definite influence upon those who are being led as sheep to the slaughter. We must seek to influence them by a wholesome and sound doctrine, found no where but upon the pages of God's holy writ, using it as it was so designed by the eternal wisdom of almighty God. If we will but teach this book and leave the wisdom of men out of all our teaching this will be sufficient II Peter 1:3. It will also make sinful men free John 8:32. In view of these pertinent facts, why then, will men seek to justify their departures from this truth by resorting to Human wisdom and human logic? Can such men not see that such a course will lead them and their followers direct to torment Luke 6:39.

Therefore, our constant task becomes one of absolute and complete disassociation with such ungodly organizations as "Herald of Truth," "World Radio," "Worldwide Missionary and Educational Foundations," "sponsoring churches," "Institutional Orphan and Old Folks Homes," "Gospel Press," "Campaigns Incorporated," "Direct Mail Evangelism," "World Bible Study," and such unscriptural methods of doing the work which God gave to each Church of Christ to perform upon an equal basis.

With these things in mind. Brethren, let us all stand as a solid wall against those forces of evil bent upon their own and the destruction of all God's elect. The scriptures emphatically warn that there will be some which will arise, teaching false doctrine with the purpose in mind to drawing disciples away from the true way which leads in due time to that heavenly home Acts 20:30.
