Gospel Guardian Tell-Al-Gram

INFORMATION ABOUT CHURCH AD CHANGES: We receive considerable correspondence about our church ad changes...a number of complaints. Our printer makes the changes in the church ad pages once a month. Sometime we get changes or new ads the day after our printer makes his monthly changes. Thus a month will pass before the change is made, and then two more weeks often pass by before our customers receive their paper. If our office or our printer makes a mistake either by omission or commission, and we sometimes do, then our customers are apt to get impatient. We certainly appreciate your business. Bear with us, maybe we'll find a way to cut corners in this matter.

THEOPHILUS BOOKS: "The presses are inked and rolling. The book is almost ready. And for a short time--until January--you can get your copies at a special pre-publication rate.

"The book is 'Theophilus.' It is a collection of the illustrated encounters between 'a friend of God' and the exponents of sin and error, with a foreword by Connie W. Adams. Evolution, Authority, Religious Division, Salvation, Worship, and Excuses are among the subjects discussed in the book.

"All who have read and enjoyed the cartoon strip will want several copies. They will make excellent gifts--during the holiday season or any other time--to friends who know the truth and to friends who don't. Editors will want an extra one to cut up and paste down as sharp reproduction quality copy.

"If you order is postmarked on or before December 31, 1968, you pay only $1 per copy (postage free if payment is enclosed with order). Beginning January 1, the price will be $1.25. Order now from: Robert A. West, 6121 Hudson Street, Orlando, Florida 32808."

B. G. HOPE: "I began preaching at Beaver Dam, Ky. the first of October after having spent nineteen years with the 12th Street congregation in Bowling Green. It has been a pleasant and profitable work. I consider 12th Street among the strongest of churches today. The future could be a 'golden period' in her history. We are grateful for every kindness shown us and wish for all the best. Presently my address is the same. The brethren at Beaver Dam are building a new 'preacher's home' and it will not be completed for a few weeks. We will be commuting. We anticipate a very profitable work there and will be happy because we will be engaged in saving souls with some of the finest people on earth. We also treasure the fact that we will be within forty-five miles of Bowling Green where we have some of the most loyal, grateful and appreciative friends people could have." 1253 Chestnut Street, Bowling Green, Ky., Nov. 15, 1968.

THANK YOU! "Dear Mr. Tant, A friend gave me one of his Gospel Guardian papers to read and I must say I really did enjoy it very much. So have decided to order it for myself."

J. O. WALTER: "Thanks to the Lord and for your help, support is sufficient for '68. But will need to make up $150.00 per month for '69 as one church will discontinue then. We could make good use of a mimeograph machine in the work here if we had one. Work progressing beyond fondest dreams. 56 present last Sunday, and where a few months ago only 8 were meeting once a week at 2:30 P.M. Now regular schedule of 4 services per week. 2 families returned (4 restored) and one 21 year old man baptized in October. Prospects look good." P. O. Box 21, Bolivia, N. C. 28422 MEMPHIS TENNESSEE: "Two new works have been started in Memphis recently, one meeting in north/northeast Memphis at 3896 Jackson Avenue, and the other in south/southwest Memphis at 1540 State Line Road in Whitehaven. I have joined the work on Jackson Avenue which started in mid-October and am still 200.00 per month short of my needed 550.00 support. The support I have raised to this point will come from the local work here, Winchester Road in Memphis, Franklin Road, Nashville, Tennessee, and Northside (Hairston & Davis Sts.), Conway, Arkansas. If there are others who can support me in this work, I would like to hear from them. We have 24 members, with an average attendance of about 30 thus far. The future looks good. Please write me at 4211 Vann Avenue, Memphis, Tennessee 38111, or call, (901) 327-9683." Walton Weaver

ANNOUNCEMENT: "John Pitman of Mountain View, Arkansas has just closed an eight day meeting with the church at Bowling Green, Missouri. Brother Pitman's preaching was plain and pointed with the meeting well attended. The church at Mountain View is young and small in number. Because of limited finances they found it necessary to discontinue support of Brother Pitman. He is without funds now and is trying to acquire meeting appointments until school year is over. This man is a good sound preacher. Churches in need of meeting preaching would do well to contact him." Kenneth Hirshey, 5007 Wyaconda, Hannibal, Missouri ELDERS APPOINTED AT LOOP 287 CONGREGATION, LUFKIN TEXAS: The following men were appointed to serve as elders - Abbott Hargraves, Bob Taylor, Buddy Griffith, Floyd Parrish, and Delbert Hammond. Elmer Moore is the preacher.

Garreth L. Clair in a meeting at Calvert Street in Wichita, Kansas December 9-15.

"Brother C. D. Plum closed a meeting at Wilmington, Ohio last night (Nov. 17) The meeting was greatly blessed. The preaching was excellent. Brother Plum uses blackboard lessons and makes them plain enough for children to understand. Six youngsters whose parents are members of the Wilmington church were baptized into Christ during the meeting. This was to be brother Plum's last meeting for 1968. He is to enter the hospital this December. I know that he would appreciate the prayers of faithful brethren during his stay there. Brother Plum is in his seventy-first year of life having his 70th birthday last June. He has been preaching the gospel of our Lord over fifty years. For 1969 he has scheduled 13 meetings. He is not working with any congregation in the capacity of a located preacher at this time. If the plans for 1969 meetings are not complete where you work and worship you would do the congregation there a favor by suggesting that they call C. D. Plum, 2503 Liberty St., Parkersburg, West Virginia 26101. He would do you good." --Fred A Shewmaker A NEGLECTED FIELD: "THE GRANITE STATE": "'The field is the world...' (Matthew 13:38). New Hampshire, 'The Granite State', is one of the original 13 and one of the New England group. It is 45th in size with a 1960 population of 606, 921. It is a state dominated by mountains and forests with long severe winters but cool and delightful summers. An uncrowded atmosphere pervades its lovely scenery. New Hampshire people prefer small towns. The largest city in the state has less than 100,000.

"In one of those small cities is the only church in the state that has taken an open stand in opposition to institutionalism. The six member church in Claremont consists of two non-native families. They would like very much to see many of the 14,000 people in the city converted to Christ. But they need help. Many brethren could very profitably serve their Lord by moving to Claremont and encouraging and helping the saints there already. A full time preacher is needed NOW. Financial support for a preacher would have to come from outside the state.

"The only church in New Hampshire came into existence without any expenditures in other areas. It can continue to exist without any. It can grow without any other church in the world knowing of its existence. The possibilities of firmly establishing the cause of Christ would accept the challenge and churches would supply him with adequate support.

"There are few states more beautiful than New Hampshire and few where the cause of Christ is so little known. Will you go? Will you help? Why not contact Paul Kelley, 2 La Plante Ave., Claremont, N. H." - Bill Echols, 1655 S. Lynhurst Dr., Indianapolis, Indiana 46241 BE SURE AND READ THIS: Kenneth E. Thomas writes about the conversion of a family visiting Kirkland, Illinois. Mr. & Mrs. Billy J. Ramsey of Delevan, N. Y. received teaching from Thomas in November while visiting in Kirkland and were baptized. They have returned to Delevan and there is no church there. Brother and Sister Ramsey as new born Christians are alone in Delevan. Can anyone be of assistance to them? Their address: 2614 California Hill Road, Delevan, New York 14042. Brother Thomas' address: %Church of Christ, Pearl Street Road, Kirkland, Illinois 60146.

FROM HOYT H. HOUCHEN: To Colorful Colorado - In September of 1949, my wife and I with three small boys left California for Texas where I had accepted the invitation to work with the Central church in Amarillo. Following Amarillo, I worked with several other Texas churches: Highland in San Antonio, Fourth and Groesbeck in Lufkin, North Park in Abilene, and Crescent Park in Odessa. While only remaining at Odessa for a little over two years, my shortest stay with any work, an invitation was extended to me to work with the Boston Street church in Aurora, Colorado. It was difficult to leave our many fine friends in Odessa; but, considering the challenge in Colorado and after much prayer, we decided to make the change. The brethren at Crescent Park in Odessa have secured the services of brother John Coffman and we predict for him and that church a continued successful work. Conditions being as they are there, there is every reason to believe that the congregation there is in its best position to grow and our prayers are for the elders, brother Coffman, and all the members for a good work.

There have been only two conservative churches in the entire state of Colorado: Aurora, and Fort Collins where brother Herbert Frasier preaches. Truly Colorado is a virgin territory as far as the Lord's church is concerned. Plans are being made to assist in the establishing of new congregations in Colorado Springs and Boulder in the not too distant future. Our elder son, Ronnie, is an audiologist at the Colorado School For The Deaf and Blind. He and his wife drive from Colorado Springs to Aurora for services on Lord's days and Wednesday evenings, a distance of sixty-five miles. Realizing the need and the opportunity to assist in establishing new congregations throughout the state, this has entered into our decision to leave Texas.

Aurora has a population of about 70,000, and is adjacent to Denver, making up a part of the Denver metropolitan area to the east. Boston Street has a membership of 120, brethren who seem sincere and devoted to the truth, spiritual in their attitude, and zealous to work. The church is served by two elders: Major Qualls and Elton Haley. Already there have been nine responses since our work began here on October 13th: three baptisms and six restorations We are looking forward to a pleasant and profitable work for the Lord, not only in the mile high Denver area but in other needy places throughout the state. There is much work to be done and we can foresee several years of work in preaching the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ in the colorful state of Colorado. We have a majestic view of the Rocky Mountains and the scenery is beautiful. This is a wonderful place to spend a vacation. Brethren, when visiting up here, we invite you to visit us and worship with us. The Boston Street church meets at 1297 Boston Street, Aurora. The brethren here have wholeheartedly accepted us and they have treated us royally since our coming. So, after nineteen years in Texas it is now Colorado. We solicit your prayers in our new work. Correspondents, please note our new address. 12528 E. Alaska Place, Aurora, Colorado 80010
