Folks And Facts

Floyd D. Chappelear 1101 Dyson, West Columbia, Texas 77486

Robert F. Turner, 1608 Sherrard Street, Burnet, Texas 78611: Beginning April 6, I have in meetings in Beaumont, Texas (Pinecrest), Modrid, Iowa; Indianapolis, Ind. (40th & Emerson); Baltimore, Md. (Taylor Ave.); Piscataway, N. J.; and Canoga Park, Calif. Interest and attendance has been very good throughout, with special attention given to a series of lessons on the church and its organization. At Canoga Park, by request of the elders, one service was devoted to an explanation of the "Arlington Meeting" and some of its ramifications. There were two baptisms, and two to place membership there.

Following a current meeting in Long Beach, Calif. (Studebaker Rd.): I will continue in meetings in Arizona, northern California. Oregon, Texas, Missouri, Arkansas, Illinois, Kentucky and Tennessee; to conclude the year 1968. Subsidy from the Oaks-West church, Burnet, Texas, is making it possible for me to conduct meetings and special studies in places unable to fully support such work.

I plan to continue this type of work in 1969; and have already scheduled work in Arizona, California, Missouri, Indiana, Alabama, Florida, and Texas. My permanent mailing address remains.

LaGard Smith, 705 Ferry Street, S. E., Salem, Oregon 97301: The sound congregation in Sweet Home, Oregon is going to be needing a preacher after I leave the work there the end of this month. There are about 40 members, but partial support will be necessary. Anyone interested should contact Bro. Louis Sloan, Route 2, Box 425, Sweet Home, Oregon. Or phone 367-3827 in Sweet Home.

My work has merely been part-time for the past nine months while I have been attending law school in Salem. There is a fine group of Christians in Sweet Home, and I would recommend the work there most highly.

William C. Sexton, 2718 Renick, St. Joseph, Missouri 64507: I have just returned from a short meeting in Albion, Nebraska. June 23-25 I met with a small group of disciples and some interested individuals in a study of God's word. Our study was: "The Place of the Church In Today's World." A small, but zealous group of disciples are meeting at 338 South 8th Street in Albion. They are convinced that God's word is IN the Bible, that is UNDERSTANDABLE, and COMPLETE. Therefore, they are determined to study to find what He says, then to DO it, being governed by it and nothing else. They have renounced Institutionalism, Centralized Control, and the Social Gospel. These have of late been accepted by many of God's people, and they are determined to stay with the scripture.

Any one going through this central Nebraska town, moving to these parts, or have relatives or friends there, would do well to advise them of the location, and meet with these people. A cordial welcome awaits any who are pleased to worship God as the Bible teaches, or are desiring to search the scriptures to find what He says.

A congregation of people standing for the "Old Path," is meeting at 120 S. Leonard Road, in Sioux City, Iowa also. Any one traveling in the Tri-State area: Western Iowa, North Eastern Nebraska, or South Dakota, should be aware of their meeting place. A cordial welcome waits any coming there. These brethren all want a "Thus saith the Lord," for what they do. They are determined not to go beyond the "Doctrine of Christ," knowing that then they "have the Father and the Son." II John 9.

Paul K. Williams, 56 Maud Street, Florida, Transvaal, Republic of South Africa: My friend, Bill Wallace, has joined the Gospel Guardian as a full-time man. The Gospel Guardian Co. and the brotherhood will gain from this.

For the four and one half years I preached in the Indianapolis area, I worked closely with Bro. Wallace. The better I knew him and his wife, Elva, the more I appreciated them both. I now count him as a close friend.

Bill was a force for stability and moderation in Indianapolis. He was the sort of man that others turned to with their problems. The preachers and churches got along remarkably well in the area, and I think that Bro. Wallace was a big factor in maintaining that harmony.

Bro. Wallace is a keen student. His preaching and his writing show careful study and research. At the same time, he is humble. He is just plain Bill Wallace, and he has no pretensions.

I believe that Bill's scholarship, writing ability, soundness, soberness and restless energy will be a great asset to the Guardian. I think that he and Bro. Tant, whom he greatly admires and appreciates for his work's sake, will make a great team.

Congratulations to Bill and the Guardian.

Hilario Longoria 1922 Central Ave., Port Lavaca, Texas 77979: I have just lost $100.00 of my personal support (as of July the 1st). If some congregation is interested in helping with my support write me to 1922 Central Avenue, Port Lavaca, Texas 77979. Churches that now support me are: Red Bluff Road at Pasadena, Texas; Bellaire Church at Bellaire, Texas; Castleberry Church at Fort Wroth, Texas. Write them for reference. I am in need of this support immediately. All I need is the $100.00 I lost.

Donald R. Givens 1309 Chase, Novato, Calif: I began my fourth year with this congregation the middle of June. A few weeks ago a lady who was formerly attending the Episcopal denomination was baptized. Our next gospel meeting is with bro Otis Moyer (Sept. 22-27) If you have acquaintances at Hamilton A.F.B., send us their name and address and we will be happy to contact them. The church building is located at 807 Grant in Novato. We are 28 miles north of San Francisco on Hwy 101.

J. T. Tuten, Jr., 3800 Blaine Avenue, St. Louis 10, Missouri: My meeting schedule for the rest of 1968 consists of the following: Crawfordsville, Indiana, 417-419 Englewood Drive where Clyde Peck is preaching. The date for this meeting is August 26-September 4. The next meeting is in Kansas City, Mo., October 21-October 27, with the Gashland Church of Christ. Ralph Dean preaches for this church. I found it necessary to cancel meetings I had scheduled for June and July due to the Bible Lands trip. I could use one or two more meetings this fall.
