Our Lord Rebuilt His Temple

W. Author Moody

"What sign shewest thou unto us?" asked the Jews after they saw Jesus cleanse the temple at Jerusalem. John 2:13-22.

Jesus gave them a real sign. He said, "Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up," Cattlemen and bankers had been commercializing on religion around the Temple. Our Lord ordered them out, saying, "Take these things hence; make not my Father's house an house of merchandise!" They were selling oxen, sheep and doves as well as conducting a currency exchange to help out the sales.

Jesus made a whip of small cords and drove them, the sheep and oxen out of the Temple. He poured out the changers' money and overthrew the tables.

But the Jews ridiculed his sign. They could not conceive of Him rebuilding the Temple in three days when it had already been in the building for forty-six years!

They would have considered His sign really foolish had they realized He was speaking of the temple of His body! Being resurrected from the dead just takes much more power and authority than to merely rebuild a house of worship.

However, when Jesus was risen from the dead, His disciples remembered that He had said this. And they believed the scripture, and the word which Jesus had taught!
