"Bible Class" Debate

Jack H. Kirby

We have signed propositions as follows with Novel Baize of Abilene, Texas, for a debate to be held here in Brownwood, October 29 through November 1, inclusive.

Teaching the Bible in classes, using women teachers in some of those classes, as Hwy. 84 church uses on Lord's Day, is divinely authorized.

Affirm: Jack H. Kirby Deny: Novel Baize

Congregations of the church of Christ that oppose the Class system and women teaching publicly are scriptural in affirming the teaching must be done in undivided assemblies only.

Affirm: Novel Baize Deny: Jack H. Kirby

The time of the discussion will be at 7:00 P.M. each day. The place of the debate will be announced later. We are attempting to secure a public hall. Anyone coming to Brownwood to attend this debate can call MI 2-2612 when arriving for the exact location. Brownwood has three non-class churches, and to our knowledge this is the first public discussion of these differences in this town. We pray much good for truth may be the outcome. Bob Craig of Lometa will assist me in this effort. Also the Hwy. 84 church of Christ has acquired property on the corner of Phillips Drive and Indian Creek Road within the city limits of Brown-wood, and is now renovating the building to accommodate as a meeting house. We will be known as the Woodland Heights church of Christ. Our first service will be held in our new location October 21, 1962, if all arrangements are complete.
