Another Little Sister

J. H. Snell

Conceived in the minds of the progressive, to be born when ample funds are gathered, another little sister to the Herald of Truth, or who knows, it might become the big sister. As yet the critter is un-named. I refer to the ambitious idea of the Park Hill Church in Denver, recently publicized, to enter into a world wide teaching program via the medium of prominent magazines such as Ladies Home Journal, Good Housekeeping, Better Homes and Gardens and others. We already have the Gospel Press organization but this is in addition. The plan is that Park Hill take care of the administration and that all others help in the financial responsibilities.

This is but another child of the harlot, the sponsoring church. The sponsoring church type of cooperation is without authority, violating every principle of autonomy, and utterly disregards the only scriptural basis for establishing responsibility on the part of either the individual or the congregation, that being ability and opportunity. New Testament churches must act independently in keeping with their abilities and opportunities. There is no case of New Testament record where one congregation ever began a work that it did riot have the ability to do. The potential of the brotherhood does not figure into the plans of any one congregation or into the discharge of responsibilities. No amount of good accomplished can offset this flagrant disregard for scriptural authority "And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye workers of iniquity." (Matt. 7:23) The phrase "ye that work iniquity" involves the matter of working without law and well might it be applied to such unscriptural schemes as here mentioned.

The family of the harlot continues to grow by leaps and bounds as it knows no bounds.
