Let The Record Speak

Brooks C. Webb, Lewisburg, Tennessee

The Christian Chronicle, December 2, 1960, carried an advertisement of the Herald of Truth. The ad asks the question, "Are Christians really spreading the Gospel?" and states that 90 per cent of the members of the church in the ENTIRE WORLD live in six states — Arkansas, Alabama, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Texas. "There are more members of the church in Nashville, OR Dallas, OR Abilene, Texas, than in the COMBINED STATES of: Massachusetts, New York, Nevada, Utah, N. Dakota, Nebraska, Minnesota AND Wisconsin," the ad declares.

But are the Herald of Truth brethren really interested in going into these "spiritually destitute" places? Let us see. In August, 1954, the Herald of Truth was on twenty-three (TV) stations — of which FOURTEEN were in TEXAS, MISSISSIPPI, ALABAMA, ARKANSAS, AND TENNESSEE. It was on in BOTH Nashville AND Dallas. It was NOT on in Massachusetts, OR Nevada, OR Utah, OR North Dakota, OR Minnesota, OR Wisconsin. It was on only one station in New York!

We believe that the same ratio is true at the present though we do not have the current listing of stations immediately at hand. Let the brethren in Abilene produce the list of stations on which the Herald of Truth is carried, and see if they are really interested in going into virgin territory with the Gospel of Christ!
