Adventures In Good Reading .

All Books Intended For Review In This Column Should Be Sent To C. R. Nichol, Clifton. Texas

These books may be ordered from the Gospel Guardian Company. P. O. Box: 980, Lufkin TX THE DEAD SEA SCROLLS, Charles F. Pfeiffer, $2.50, Baker Book House.

When I heard about the "scrolls" found near the Dead Sea I wondered how near I may have been to them. Yes, I would like to be with a party of men with "pick and shovel" looking for an inviting place to dig in an effort to find some records made in the days of Christ, or soon thereafter.

This book by Mr. Pfeiffer will bring much to you of the people where these "Scrolls" have been found, and you will be better prepared to read the translation into English. You will be better prepared if you know something about the people who lived, and had a part in the making of the records. Yes, their religion will, possibly, be most interesting to us, and will it reflect more of what Jesus taught, or what Moses taught? Secure a copy and become conversant with them. There is what is thought to be evidence that Roman Soldiers occupied the section where the pottery and coins were found, and they hid the records to keep them out of the hands of the Romans. Secure a copy of the book.

NEW TESTAMENT WITH NOTES, (American Standard Version) $3.95.

This book was first printed in 1912, but is now printed by Baker Book House. There were some fifty outstanding preachers associated in making the selection of comments, which appear on same pages as the text. The comments come from men of different churches. The book has been published especially for teachers hence is a compact book, cloth bound. You will find immediately before each of the books composing the New Testament, a condensed history of the book, and some comments about who wrote it. When you have a copy you will not forget to take it when you go to the Bible Study on Sunday morning, when the lesson is in the New Testament. Possibly you have only the "King James Version". You will make this a splendid occasion to secure a copy of the American Standard Version, and within the same binding find much valuable information in the comments. Why not make a habit of buying a new hook each month in the year. Have a new book to read each month, or even more frequently. May I send you a suggested list to buy?
