Ohio Valley College

Clifton Inman: "Let me clarify the article which recently appeared in Gospel Guardian and Gospel Advocate concerning the Ohio Valley College Lectures. That article was written by me and approved by five men of the Board of Trustees: Denver Cooper, Kenneth Adams, W. Leon Matheny, and Marlin Newberry. For some reason only three signatures were published. That error probably was made in our office. The other men of the Board were not committed.

In all of our publicity we have let it be known that we do not believe in soliciting or accepting funds from church treasuries. We have placed this provision in our by-laws as an article which is never to be amended.

This does not mean that we are going to fight schools who do accept funds from church treasuries. But this will be done on principle and not as an attack upon some individual or some school. It is my personal hope that Ohio Valley College will never be used as a tool of self-righteousness, setting forth itself as "the loyal school" of the brotherhood.

We hear some complaints (and read some) these days of those who demand that a preacher be in favor of certain projects before a church will use him. This is called sectarianism; but what of the opposite practice? What of demanding that a school or a preacher be opposed to certain projects?

The "sons of Zenuiah" be too hard for some of us. It is possible that they be also too hard for the Lord?"
