Pure Religion Blocked

J. Lee Hines, Garland, Texas

James, an apostle, wrote, "Pure religion and undefiled before our God and Father is this, to visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world" Jas. 1:27.

Three weeks past, my phone rang, and a member of the church was asking for help — A home had been broken, a three year old boy and a seven year old girl needed a home — the legal mother desired to adopt these children to some Christian couple. I consented to see what I could do. The following Sunday, I made this announcement where I preach. After one announcement, I had FOUR couples who desired to adopt one or both children.

Brethren, my experience through about twenty-five years in the Dallas area has been that many couples who desired to adopt children have found it almost impossible. Many have been driven to what is called, "the black market."

Of course when children get into an Orphan Home, the state law for adoptions are so rigid, that it is almost impossible to comply therewith, therefore, the principle of James 1:27 is blocked.

It is my conviction that every congregation should endeavor, through every member, to care for the Orphans and proper adult poor. This thing of passing the responsibility to an institution, other than the church shows a lack of faith.

How long will we continue to block "Pure Religion"?
