"Hiding A Multitude Of Sins"

Forrest D. Moyer, Sunnyvale, California

"Brethren, if any of you do err from the truth, and one convert him; let him know that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins." (James 5:1920) Are you hiding a multitude of sins? No, I do not mean that you are supposed to cover up your sins or that you can slip around and sin. But, are you causing another person to obey the gospel that Christ's blood may wash away his sins? This is accomplished by our 'converting a sinner from the error of his way."

1) You must realize that a sinner is in error. He is travelling the wrong road — the broad way that leads to destruction. He must be led to Christ.

2) You must realize also that anyone in error is a sinner. We are prone to look upon sinners as only those who have either made no religious profession or those who are immoral, etc. But the truth is that anyone who is in error religiously is a sinner. We must convert him.

3) A sinner is doomed to death. "The wages of sin is death." (Rom. 6:23). So long as one is in his error, he is in the way of death. When you convert him, you save his soul from death.

4) You must convert him. This means to change him, cause him to turn from his error to accept the Christ. Only then can his sins be washed away. During the coming weeks of our work in the Lord's vineyard, you will have ample opportunity to convert others to Christ. Don't let them pass! Don't stand before God empty-handed!
