News From Here And There

Donald Willis is with the West End church in Houston Texas. He publishes a nice bulletin and the work there seems to be going well . . . . Charles L. Morton is working with the church in Leesville, Louisiana . . . . Lynn Headrick is now working regularly with the Acipco church in Birmingham. He was formerly with the church in LaFayette, Georgia .... Tom Holland and Ted Kell are now living and laboring in Janesville, Wisconsin. Holland moved from Pulaski, Tennessee and Kell from Manchester, Tennessee . . .. Albert T. Robinson is now preaching in Columbia, Mississippi. Only a small band of disciples meet there. They are not able to support Robinson but $50 per week. He needs $25 per week more. Who can help? He is a solid and sound young. man in a barren field. His address is: Box 374. It would be good if some Church would help with his support so he could stay in that area and preach the gospel . . . Doyle Mills has moved to Trion Georgia to labor with the church there. He moved from Chattanooga where he worked with the Chattanooga Bible School ... It looks like it may well be that the American Standard Version will be increasingly harder to obtain. The Thomas Nelson Company is pushing the sale of the Revised Standard Version and they are gradually dropping most of the American Standard Bibles they have been publishing. It seems that they hope that the RSV will completely replace the ASV — and if they have their way it will do so. This would be a misfortune indeed. Looks like some of the brethren (who have the money) will have to obtain permission (if needed) and keep this translation on the market. It would certainly be a service to all and no doubt would be a profitable venture. If someone will loan me the money I will keep it available for all . . . . Wayne Coats has moved from Murfreesboro (where he has been with the Westvue church for five years) to Donnelson, Tennessee where he will work with the church . . . . In addition to his duties with Florida Christian College, C. W. Scott will work with the Henderson Blvd. church in Tampa . . . . Bonds Stocks is now with the Jackson Heights church in Florence, Alabama . . . . James W. Adams, who has been with the church in Nacogdoches, Texas will soon move to Oklahoma City, where he will labor with the Tenth and Francis church .... After over fourteen years with the East Main Street church in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Gorge W. DeHoff has "resigned" and moved to Albion, Idaho where he is to serve as President of the Magic Valley Christian College. The last Sunday he was at East Main sixteen were baptized into Christ.... Texas Bible Banner is the newest little paper to make it's debut. It is published by the DeQueen Blvd. church in Port Arthur, Texas and Bob Craig is the editor. There is no charge for it. Address: 3924 Dryden Road. It is good to see so many papers now being printed which contend for the truth and will help to get the truth to the members of the church far and wide . . . . PLEASE help me by sending in any bulletin from any church anywhere that shows how churches are going in for recreational and entertainment activities; youth rallies; church camps; ball teams; kitchens; instrumental music brought in for weddings and funerals; and all other such things. If you can't send the bulletin or newspaper clipping itself, then please send a copy with complete information as to the ones involved and the source from which the information came. I have quite a collection of this kind of material and I am sure that there is much more that ought to be gathered. I am giving the readers of this column the benefit of some of this material all along and the rest is available to anyone who may have need of it. There is no better way to wake up the members in general to what is taking place than to read to them of some of the activities of various churches. Please help to make a complete collection of all this kind of material. Send it today . . . . Curtis Posey has moved from Tullahoma, Tennessee to Fayette, Alabama.... Albert McKinney is now working with the church in Spring Hill, Tennessee. He was "Associate Minister" at the Fourth Avenue church in Franklin, Tennessee . . . . Bryan Vinson, Sr. has moved from Tulsa, Oklahoma, where he has helped get the Southside church off to a good start and established, back "home" to East Texas. He will work with a new congregation in Longview, Texas .... John H. Gerrard is now laboring with the church in Sciotoville, Ohio. He moved from Spring and Blaine in St. Louis, Mo. Ferrell Jenkins is now with the Spring and Blaine church in St. Louis, moving there from Auburn, Kentucky . . Julian Snell has moved from the Bosley Road church in Owensboro, Kentucky, to Louisville where he will help the West End church . . . . I see where the publisher of the Christian Leader has written an "Open Letter" to Pat Boone in which he suggests that Boone should write a book on "Why I Am A Member Of The Church of Christ." Bro. Anguish thinks that maybe it would be good for Boone to collaborate with "Bobby Morrow, Byron Nelson, and maybe some other influential people." He thinks that such a book would really do good and no doubt convert thousands. He tells Boone in this "Open Letter" that he (Boone) and other "outstanding Christians" like him have really been putting the church on the map in the last few years. Of course, one of the greatest, according to Anguish, has been Burton Coffman — a promotes par-excellent. It is amazing and disgusting to see just how much people think that the church of the Lord depends upon the fame of some who are members of it and all the promotional schemes hatched up by brethren. Maybe when Boone writes this book he can tell why he wears the medallions that he does and how he can justify such a practice in the light of the scriptures. He has several of them. One is a "medal with St. Christopher on one side (the patron saint, Boone said, of travel and transportation) and St. Genesius on the reverse (this saint, said Boone. protects actors)." Boone also admits that he "wears a Lion of Judah medallion and a Jewish 'mezuzah,' among others." Perhaps if he should wear such things the rest of us should do so also, because after all he is one of the "outstanding Christians" and is really helping lead the church out of the wilderness and helping it gain fame and fortune! Boone is in a field in which it is impossible to be successful and remain a faithful Christian. The pressures are too great and the offers to compromise are too many. While I am not a prophet, I think that it is only a matter of time till Boone will go the way of all others before him who were members of the church and tried their hand in Hollywood and in the entertainment world . . . . Everett Shoaf has moved to Sumter, S. C. to work with the church there .... Frank Jamerson is now working with the West End church in Richmond, Virginia .. . Did YOU note the apology for and defense of mixed swimming, social drinking, and dancing which appeared in a recent issue of the Gospel Advocate? Well, it was there and with the evident endorsement of the editor of that journal. Of course, the main thing the writer was trying to do was to help the GA in their effort to destroy the influence of the Guardian and Florida Christian College, and it looks like in their madness to accomplish this the GA will resort to any means or to anyone who may be able to aid them in their unholy endeavor. It seems that it doesn't matter much WHO the person is, what he has done, what his reputation may be, what positions otherwise he may espouse, IF he will only declare his allegiance to the GA. let it be known that he believes in "orphan homes" and the Herald of Truth, and will help oppose the GG, then he is accepted and endorsed by the GA as being a "sound and faithful preacher." I am persuaded that there are thousands of readers of the GA who are not ready (yet) for the acceptance of social drinking, mixed swimming, dancing and the like. Yet, in effect, the GA has given its editorial approval to one of the writers who does believe such to be right and his article defending such has been carried therein. Now will they let this stand without any correction? Are the supporters of the GA that desperate for help in their fight to put over all their benevolent organizations and human arrangements? Are they willing to swallow the above in order to have the help of one who does believe in and uphold such? We shall see.... Above I mentioned that the Texas Bible Banner is the latest little paper to appear on the scene. Well, before this article could be finished the mail brings a copy of one even newer. The latest one is The Expounder, published by the Fourth St. church in Cullman. Alabama, and edited by Jack L. Holt — my brother in the flesh and in the Lord"." — It is a printed paper and the first issue is neat and indicates that this will be another valuable publication in the effort to teach the truth and stem the tide of digression and modernism that seems bent on sweeping the churches. It is free and may be received by writing to the editor at Box 403, Cullman, Alabama.
