A Suggested Method, Or Organization

Pryde E. Hinton, Dora, Alabama

In most congregations we have difficulty in keeping the young people interested and at work. It seems to me that if we could get them interested in helping others, that would solve the problem and benefit them and those helped.

I therefore suggest that we organize our young Christians into groups in each church, or if several churches are too small to do the needed work, alone let several organize a joint organization. This organization would have its own board of trustees (or directors), president, secretary-treasurer, and planner (or superintendent). Certain ones could be organized into a financial committee, and could easily raise the money needed (young people are good at this, especially pretty girls). Such an organization would be almost identical to Childhaven's set-up, except that it will require no property purchase (can use the meeting house — recreation, or dining room would be ideal). And another difference would be that it would be composed solely of young Christians. This would teach them how to work and take care of such work. It would fit them for greater service in the future.

This organization could also relieve the elders of planning the fellowship suppers, wiener roasts. etc., that should be planned for the youth of our churches.

I do not see how anyone can oppose this plan; it is only a means. Childhaven orphanage at Cullman, Alabama, has this sort of organization for benevolent purposes to do the work of the churches: so I believe my "Man" is also "Scriptural" — just as Scriptural as Child-haven leading brethren say Childhaven is Scriptural, and nobody but a few "anti's" deny it. These radical extremes will soon fade away — as soon as brethren read the Cogdill-Woods Debate!
